Warrant: Inmate attempted to smuggle cellphone into prison

A Gainesville man was in jail without bond Tuesday night after being accused of attempting to smuggle a cellphone into the Floyd County Prison by hiding it in a body cavity.
According to Floyd County Jail reports:
Bradley Aaron Wine, 23, of 3725 Renee Circle, Gainesville, was arrested Tuesday. He is charged with felony items prohibited for possession by inmates.
Wine had attempted to smuggle a ZTE touchscreen cellphone into the prison, which he is an inmate of, on Nov. 17, 2017, according to a warrant for his arrest. Prison officials found the cellphone on him and confiscated it, the warrant stated.

4 arrested after Task Force investigation
Rome-Floyd Metro Task Force officers arrested four people after a raid at a location on East Seventh Street.
According to Floyd County Jail reports:
Amber Nicole Snipes, 23; Joshua Blake Strickland, 35; and Dustin Grant Strickland, 31; all of 312 East Seventh Street, and Vicki Leanne McGowen, 29, of 435 John Ingram Road, were all arrested Monday morning after officers confiscated an undisclosed quantity of methamphetamine and pills.
Joshua Strickland is charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, probation violation and possession of drug related objects. Dustin Strickland and Snipes are charged with felony possession of meth and misdemeanor possession of drug related objects. McGowen is charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and felony possession of Schedule IV drugs.
Joshua Strickland was in jail without bond Tuesday night, Dustin Strickland, Snipes and McGowen were all being held on $5,700 bond.
Chatsworth man jailed on burglary charge
A Chatsworth man has been jailed after breaking into an apartment at the Ashland Park complex managed by the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority, reports stated.
According to Floyd County Jail reports:
Matthew Russell Bronson, 31, of 2094 Smyrna Church Road, broke into an apartment at 535 Ashland Park Blvd. around 8:45 p.m. Monday and remained in the apartment with the intent to commit a theft.
Bronson is charged with felony burglary, felony interference with government property and misdemeanor criminal trespassing, theft by taking and obstruction of officers.
Bronson was in jail Tuesday night on an $11,200 bond.
Man accused of taking lottery tickets
A Rome man is accused of stealing $60 worth of lottery tickets from a local convenience store.
According to Floyd County Jail reports:
Virgil B. Edwards, 46, of 105 W. Eighth St., is accused of taking three Lady Luck lottery tickets worth $20 each from the Kangaroo convenience store at 900 N. Broad S. around 2:50 a.m. Tuesday.
Edwards was arrested about ten minutes later and jailed on a felony robbery by sudden snatching charge.
Edwards was in jail Tuesday night without bond and also faces warrants out of Clayton and Polk counties.
Report: Man arrested after pawning jewelry
Floyd County police arrested a Rome man on a felony theft by taking warrant after learning that he had pawned jewelry stolen from a home on Cave Spring Road earlier this month, reports stated.
According to Floyd County Jail reports:
Phil Stanley Storey Jr., 46, of 1301 Cave Spring Road, is accused of taking a man’s gold ring with seven diamonds from a home on Cave Spring Road. The ring was valued at $2,000 and Storey is reported to have pawned the ring the same day for $450.
Storey was in jail on a $3,500 bond Tuesday night, charged with felony theft by taking and misdemeanor theft by deception.
Man charged with aggravated assault
A Floyd County resident was in jail without bond Tuesday night after allegedly choking a woman at his home on Feb. 11, reports stated.
According to Floyd County Jail reports:
Eric Virta Jr., 25, of 130 Prater Road, is charged with felony aggravated assault after he put his hands around a woman’s
neck to the point that she was not able to breathe.
Virta was also charged with hindering an emergency phone call, criminal trespassing and cruelty to children. He also faces a felony probation violation.

Bomb squad looks at package, says it’s safe
The bomb squad and Rome Police Department were called to the Restoration Rome Center for Foster Care Services after a “suspicious package” was found on the grounds.
According to a press release:
At approximately 7:44 a.m. Tuesday morning, the facilities manager called 911 after discovering a suspicious package during walk-around of the building on Crane Street.
Rome police secured the building and area while the bomb squad assessed the situation, deemed the package nonhazardous and removed it pending any further investigation. As of 10 a.m. Restoration Rome was reopened for daily activities.
Currently there are seven children’s service agencies with working offices at the facility.
