Lady Dragons improve to 2-0 in region play

The Pepperell girls’ soccer team added a pair of insurance goals in the second half of a Region 7-AA game Tuesday on the way to a 5-3 win over Gordon Central in Lindale.

Jasmine Martinez scored twice for the Lady Dragons, who improved to 2-0 in region play. Keeper Breanna Culpepper tallied seven saves in goal, while Ansley Davenport had a goal and two assists.

Sydni Hazelwood and Marleni Perez each scored a goal as well. Pepperell (2-0-1) will host Dade County today at 5 p.m. In other action:

TENNIS: Armuchee girls 4, Pepperell 1

A sweep in singles play helped propel the Armuchee girls’ tennis team to a 4-1 win over Region 7-AA rival Pepperell on Tuesday at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College.

No. 1 singles player Brook Dellis won 6-0, 6-0 for the Lady Indians, while her sister, Hannah Dellis, won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Haley Mathis won at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Armuchee’s Taylor Harris and Madison Bartlett took the No. 1 doubles match with a 7-5, 6-4 final. Pepperell avoided the sweep as Ashley Cordle and Jasmine Grismer pulled out the win at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

Trion boys 3, Rome 2

Rome’s boys’ tennis team fought to try and edge out a win over Trion in a non-region match Tuesday but came up short in the 3-2 loss.

The Wolves won both doubles matches with John Cromer and John Camp winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, and Mark Spates and Jarrett Swanson winning 6-1, 6-3 at No.2

Rome’s three singles players each lost to their Trion counterpar­ts after a tiebreaker.

Rockmart girls 5, Model 0

Alexis Casey and Rose Haney won a 10-point tiebreaker to win at No. 2 doubles and complete a sweep for Rockmart over Region 7-AA foe Model on Tuesday.

Alexis Clanton and Anna Smith won the No. 1 doubles match for Rockmart 6-3, 6-0. Emma Evans won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Mary Ella Owen won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

Rockmart was awarded the No. 3 singles match by forfeit.
