RINGGOLD — A Ringgold teenager was arrested after she reported a social media threat against herself to police, who ultimately determined that she’d created the threat herself.

According to the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Department:

Alexandria Justine Greene, 17, of 40 Cemetery Lane in Ringgold, was arrested late Monday night on the charge of false report of a crime.

On Monday a social media threat started circulating involving a male threatening a female with claims that he was going to Ringgold High School with a gun the next day. The post also included several racial slurs aimed at the female. Sheriff Gary Sisk says that after his office was made aware of the claim, a full investigation was launched.

“During the investigation, it was found that the ‘victim of the threat’ had actually made a fake account on social media,” Sisk said. “She then made a post making it appear that she was being threatened to be killed at school the next day and sent the post to herself.”

Sisk says the teen then began sharing the post with several other students, which began to spread the concern.

“The student was identified as Alexandria Justine Greene,” Sisk said. “Greene was arrested on Monday, Feb. 19 at 11:57 p.m.”

According to the jail’s online booking log, she has been released from custody.
