Police find pills during stop

An early morning traffic stop on Calhoun Avenue led to the arrest of three people on felony drug charges.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

William Levering, 40, of 524 Ashland Park Blvd., was stopped for not wearing his seat belt just after midnight Thursday on Calhoun at Perkins Street. He had Trazadone pills that weren’t prescribed to him and a pipe containing meth in his truck.

One passenger, Joseph Edward Otting, 39, of 304 Reynolds St., was also charged with having the meth pipe. The other, Christina Renee Kelley, 33, of 20 Ross St., had hydrocodon­e and Alprazolam pills in a prescripti­on bottle with someone else’s name on it.

Kelley was being held without bond Thursday on felony charges of possession of meth, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance. She’s also facing misdemeano­r charges of possession of a drug-related object and drugs not kept in the original container.

Bail was set at $3,500 each for Levering and Otting, who are charged with felony possession of meth and misdemeano­r possession of a drug-related object.

Levering also is charged with misdemeano­r possession of dangerous drugs and a seat-belt violation.

Deputies: Man tried to flush pot down toilet

A Rome man facing five counts of obstructin­g law enforcemen­t officers was released from jail Thursday on a $7,900 bond.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Brian Antonio Tinch, 19, of 413B Wilson Ave., was arrested late Wednesday night at his home and charged with felony possession of marijuana, felony tampering with evidence and five misdemeano­r counts of obstructio­n.

Tinch is accused of refusing to open the door to deputies with a search warrant and trying to flush about two ounces of marijuana down the toilet. Officers also confiscate­d $2,380 in cash found in his home.

Trailer with cleaning supplies stolen

Rome police are investigat­ing the theft of a trailer filled with cleaning equipment and supplies from the lot next to Courtyard by Marriott.

According to Rome police reports:

A woman who works for the hotel told police the box trailer had been on the lot next to the hotel at 320 W. Third St. since October 2017. When she returned to work Tuesday the trailer was gone.

There had been a lock over the tongue of the trailer that would have had to be cut off, she told police.

Police contacted the owner of the trailer who valued it at $2,300. The value of the items — including vacuums, mops, mop buckets and squeegees — inside the trailer were valued at $2,000.

Woman charged with possession of drugs

A Rome woman was jailed Thursday afternoon following her arrest on multiple drug charges.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Mar J or ell Lo let ha Stamper, 32, of 120 Martha Berry Blvd., was arrested at her residence where police recovered individual­ly packaged pills, a plastic bag containing meth, another plastic bag with cocaine, several small bags of synthetic marijuana, several bags of marijuana and two scales.

Stamper was charged with felony possession of cocaine, felony possession of methamphet­amine, felony possession of a Schedule I or Schedule II controlled substance with the intent to distribute, misdemeano­rs for possession of drugs not in an original container, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug related objects and purchase, possession or sale of controlled substances.

Stamper was being held in the Floyd jail Thursday night without bond.

Murder suspect may have used stolen gun

The man accused of killing a convenienc­e store clerk at 500 Burnett Ferry Road earlier this month allegedly used a stolen handgun to commit the fatal shooting.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Lamar Rashad Nicholson, 28, of 1347 Redmond Circle, was charged with theft by receiving a stolen firearm Thursday.

Police have determined the 9 mm Taurus firearm used to kill Rimmi Singh had been stolen from a man in Gaylesvill­e, Alabama.

Nicholson remains jailed on multiple charges including murder for the slaying of Singh, aggravated assault and armed robbery for a second convenienc­e store incident less than 15 minutes after he allegedly killed Singh.

Man charged with possession of heroin

A Rome man was taken into custody Thursday on the campus of Georgia Northweste­rn Technical College after he was observed smoking something from aluminum foil.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Thomas Rhodes Welborn, 27, of 2 Paddock Place, was arrested just before 10 a.m. Thursday in the parking lot at 1 Maurice Culberson Drive. Police said he was observed smoking something from a foil wrapper.

Welborn was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance (heroin) and felony possession of a controlled substance in or near a school.

He was being held in the Floyd County Jail without bond Thursday night.
