Helen Wooten

Mrs. Helen Wooten, 80, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018. She was born on June 25, 1937, the daughter of the late Sidney Smithers Stewart and the late Martha Cassandra Brooks Stewart. Mrs. Wooten worked at Shorter University with the National Janitorial Service until a few years ago. Before that she worked at Floyd Medical Center in the cafeteria for 13 years. She was a member of Wilkerson Baptist Church and also a member of Women of Winthrop. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Wooten; her son, Tony Layne Morton; her grandson, Jason Wayne Morton; and her brothers, Ernest Lee Stewart, Horace Allen Stewart, and Sidney Eugene Stewart.

Mrs. Wooten is survived by her children, Stoney Wayne Morton of Erie, Penn., Wanda Lee Shelly of Rome, and Troy John Wesley Ford (Christy) of Rome; her grandchild­ren, Chad Arwin Morton (Kelly), LeeAnna Rene Edmonds (Chris), Kayla LeVon Holland (Jai), Cody Layne Morton, Andrew Edward Lindsey (Katlin), and Austin Turner Lindsey; her great-grandchild­ren, Brayden Morton, McKinli Morton, Tanner Morton, Jayla Holland, Ella Holland, Greyson Lindsey, and Branston Lindsey; her sisters, Jane Lambert Watson (Glancy) and Annette Carter (Danny).

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Oaknoll Chapel with the Reverend Johnny Sisson and the Reverend Scott Lambert officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday from noon until the service hour.

Serving as pallbearer­s will be Chad Morton, Jai Holland, Chris Edmonds, Andrew Lindsey, Austin Lindsey, and Jody Shelly. Honorary pallbearer­s are Cody Morton, Glancy Watson, Danny Carter, and Tommy McGill.

Mr. Kenneth Ross Cormany, age 90, of Rome, passed away at a local healthcare facility on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018.

Services for Mr. Cormany will be held Saturday morning, March 3, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Second Avenue Baptist Church, Rome, with the Rev. Monty Stallins officiatin­g. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church. A private interment will follow at 2 p.m.

Mrs. Lynda Olivia Phillips McKenzie, age 77, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at her residence.

Mrs. McKenzie was born in Rome, Georgia on Sept. 30, 1940, daughter of the late Ralph Phillips and the late Sara Slaughter Phillips. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobbie Kenneth McKenzie, on July 3, 2012; by a son, Bobbie Kenneth McKenzie II, on February 7, 2012; by a sister, Sarah Greer; and by a special nephew, Barry Kodiak Easterwood. Mrs. McKenzie was a Hilltopper and was a member of the last graduating class of the old Rome High School in 1958. She worked for a number of years for J.C. Penney, retiring as the manager of the Men’s Department.

Mrs. McKenzie was a faithful lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member of Dirk Gaylor’s Sunday School Class, which she absolutely loved. She was also a member of the Rome Firefighte­rs Auxiliary, the J.C. Penney retirees’ luncheon group, Daughters of Berry and The Card Club, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Survivors include a son, Bo McKenzie and his wife, Brandy; a daughter-inlaw, Gayle McKenzie; four grandchild­ren, Skye McKenzie Miles, Mason McKenzie, Jeremy Hindman, and Corey Hindman; a sister, Sandra Duvall; several nieces and nephews.

A celebratio­n of Lynda’s life will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dirk Gaylor, Dr. Gary Graves, and Dr. Frank Wood officiatin­g. Private interment will follow at a later date at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Calvary Baptist Church on Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. Mrs. McKenzie will also lie in state on Friday from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church.

Mrs. Annjell Garrison Webb, age 81, of Rome, passed away Tuesday morning, Feb. 27, 2018.

Mrs. Webb was born in Shannon, Ga. on July 7, 1936, daughter of the late W.C. “Cliff” Garrison and the late Glatha Sewell Garrison. She was a graduate of Model High School and attended Shorter College. Mrs. Webb was employed for a number of years as the receptioni­st for Dr. Seaborn Reeves here in Rome. Prior to her retirement, she was employed with the Floyd County School System at Model Elementary School for nearly 15 years. Following retirement, she served as a Pink Lady at Floyd Medical Center for over 12 years. Mrs. Webb attended Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church and was a charter member of the Sparrows Sunday School class.

Survivors include her husband, W. Jerome Webb, to whom she was married on September 26, 1959; her son, Garrison Jerome Webb, and his wife, Jeanine, Lawrencebu­rg, Tenn.; her daughter, Lila Maleah Webb, Orlando, Fla.; three grandchild­ren, Dr. Macey Webb McClary, and her husband, Andy, San Leandro, Calif., Coco Parker, Orlando, Fla., and Alex Webb, Marianna, Fla.; a sister, Annelle Hamilton, and her husband, Mody, Armuchee; several nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at a later date in Floyd Memory Gardens.
