Coosa gets 3-2 win in 11 innings

Seth Crowe hit a walkoff sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th inning to give Coosa a 3-2 win over Adairsvill­e at home Tuesday.

Dylan Callahan went 2 for 5 with two singles and an RBI for the Eagles (24), while Crowe finished 1 for 4 with a single and an RBI.

Caleb Shiflett started on the mound for Coosa, throwing six innings and striking out 10 while allowing five hits and one earned run. Jay Hamby got the win as he threw the final five innings and struck out five with two hits.

Coosa will be on the road today with a game at Cherokee County (Ala.).

Darlington 6, Pepperell 3

The Darlington Tigers opened up with a 3-0 lead and held on from there Tuesday to take a non-region game over Pepperell.

Cam Watson led Darlington at the plate, going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Trey Yunger went 1 for 3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, while Nick Mauer was 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Austin Cloud threw the first two innings, allowing just one hit, no walks and striking out two.

Pepperell (3-4) travels to Cherokee County (Ala.) on Thursday, while Darlington will host Woodland in a doublehead­er Saturday.

SOCCER Rome girls 4, Villa Rica 3

Hosting Villa Rica for its Region 7-5A opener, the Rome girls’ soccer team pulled out a 4-3 win at Barron Stadium on Tuesday.

Mae Pierce led the charge with two goals and an assist for the Lady Wolves, while Janet Hartman posted a goal and an assist. Allyson Harris scored a goal, and Jennifer Zavala had an assist.

Rome keeper Michele Monzalvo finished with 11 saves. The Lady Wolves (1-5, 1-0 7-5A) next plays Friday at Cass.

Rockmart girls 4, Pepperell 2

Rockmart’s girls’ soccer team defeated Pepperell 4-2 in Rockmart on Tuesday evening in a Region 7-AA contest.

Ansley Davenport opened the scoring for Pepperell with a goal off an assist from Jaycee Beard. Lady Dragon Jasmin Martinez scored an unassisted goal in the second half, and keeper Breanna Culpepper had 13 saves.

Pepperell (2-3-1, 2-3 7-AA) will travel to Model on Friday.

GOLF Pepperell girls, Cedartown boys win

The golf teams for Pepperell and Cedartown split nine-hole matches at Meadow Lakes Golf Course with Pepperell’s girls and Cedartown’s boys picking up wins.

In the girls’ match, Pepperell finished with a final of 147, while Cedartown had a 161. Cedartown’s boys finished with 158, while Pepperell had a 214.

Pepperell’s girl leaders were Grace Hufford (46), Sydnie Edwards (50) and Josie McGraw (51). Cedartown was led by Evie Blackmon (50), followed by Kinsley Houston (54) and Day McElwee (57).

Cedartown’s boys scorers were Jhett Lewis (35), Ty Tracy (35), Nolan Holland (44) and Hunter Hollis (44). Leading for Pepperell were Ben Robinson (48), Barrett Pence (53), Tom Vincent (55) and Michael Corntassle (58).

TENNIS Pepperell, Coosa split

The Pepperell boys and Coosa girls picked up wins on the tennis courts Tuesday with both teams winning by 3-2 final tallies.

Winning for the Pepperell boys were Ben Welchel at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-0), Brian Wiggins

at No. 3 singles (3-6, 6-4, 10-7) and the No. 1 doubles team of Tyler Welchel and Koby Legg (7-5, 6-4).

Rome sweeps Cass

Playing on the road, the Rome High tennis teams earned 3-2 wins against Cass in both boys’ and girls’ competitio­ns.

Winning for the Rome boys were No. 3 singles Carson Garrett (7-6, 6-2, 6-2), the No. 1 doubles team of John Cromer and J.C. Camp (6-4, 6-3) and the No. 2 doubles team of Mark Spates and Jarrett Swanson (6-1, 6-0).

In the girls’ matches, Rome’s Nigara Nizimidin won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2, while J.C. Tan won at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 7-5. No. 1 doubles team Ripley Bennett and Jordan Smith won 6-2, 6-1.
