Downtown Saturdays kick off with Lantern Parade
The Downtown Rome Saturdays, series will start in May with a brand new event for the downtown district, the inaugural Rome Lantern Parade. The event is scheduled for Saturday May 5.
Activities that day will include Ellen the Axson Wilson Art Walk, International Festival, Chalk Your Heart Out, singer-songwriters and local bands. .
The Rome Lantern Parade is free, but a lantern is required with each entry. Lanterns must be lighted by battery-operated lights. Glass lanterns and fire lit lanterns are not permitted.
The parade will roll off the main stage of the block party with the lantern contest. Lantern contest categories include: Most Creative, Largest Lantern, Best Group En-try and Best Rome Theme.
Prior to the event, a series of lantern workshops will be held beginning Tuesday March 27 at 4
p.m. at the ECO Center in Ridge Ferry Park.

The International Festival will feature visitors from many countries showcasing native food and crafts.
The Rome Area Council for the Arts will host the annu-al Ellen Axson Wilson Art Walk as part of
the street festival. Photographers, painters, jewelers, potters and other craft makers will be represented.
Chalk Your HeART Out hosted by Merry Maids of Rome is encouraging teams to compete in a sidewalk art chalk compe-tition to raise funds for their local charity of choice. Teams can visit the festival website for entry information.
Georgia Highlands hosts workplace seminar
Georgia Highlands College will host a “Moving Forward: Men and Women in the 21st Century Workplace” conference on the Cartersville campus March 27.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, and costs $59 to attend or $49 for members of the Cartersville Chamber of Com-merce.
Presenters will examine how to avoid career-ending scandals and provide workplaces free of gender harassment. After short presentations, both speakers will answer questions from participants.
C.R. Wright, a partner at Fisher & Phillips, where he advises clients on general labor and employment issues will be one of the presenters. Wright also handles OSHA inspections, af-firmative action audits, charges of discrimination and wage and hour investigations. He was also a police officer for seven years with the Cobb County Police Department where he attained the rank of Sergeant. C.R. has presented several times during the H.R. Academy held at the Chamber.
M. Faye McCord has practiced law for over 25 years and has represented victims of gender-based harassment. Her case-load includes civil litigation, including probate, domestic relations and family law including juvenile court and supe-rior court as well as criminal law.
