Below are this week’s schedule of clubs and meetings:

MONDAY

Senior Gospel Singers meet every Monday from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Charles C. Parker Senior Center, 1325 Kingston Highway, and every Thursday from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at the Shannon Scout Hut in Shag Williams Park, 40 Minshew Road, Shannon. The Georgia Mountain Music Club will have an instrument­al jam session every Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Charles C. Parker Senior Center, 1325 Kingston Highway. Musicians are asked to bring non-electrical instrument­s such as guitars, fiddles, banjos, harmonicas, upright bass or mandolin. Visitors are welcome. Admission is free. TUESDAY

The Disabled American Veterans of Chapter 95 will be at the RomeFloyd County Library, 205 Riverside Parkway, on Tuesdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. to assist veterans in filing benefits claims with the Veterans Administra­tion. The Floyd County Republican Women will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Red Lobster, 700 Shorter Ave. The meeting begins at noon. State School Superinten­dent of Georgia Richard Woods, who is currently campaignin­g for reelection, will be the guest speaker.

Rome Seven Hills Rotary will meet at noon Tuesday at Coosa Country Club, 110 Branham Ave., to hear Vocational Talks from new members.

WEDNESDAY

The Georgia Mountain Music

Club meets Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon at the Charles C. Parker Senior Center, 1325 Kingston Highway. Members and guests perform bluegrass, country and gospel music. Visitors are welcome to attend the free program. For more informatio­n call Bob Anderson at 706-767-1815.

The Rome Chapter of The Compassion­ate Friends will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. at Redmond Regional Medical Center, 501 Redmond Road. Take the outpatient elevator to the lower level classrooms. The Rome Chapter of the National Associatio­n of Active and Retired Federal Civil Service Employees will meet Thursday at 11:15 a.m. at the Landmark Restaurant on Martha Berry Highway. The guest speaker will be Debra Quillan, who will lead a discussion regarding “self defense.” Those qualifying for membership are invited, and transporta­tion for prospectiv­e members (living within the Rome area) to attend the meeting may be made available. The Exchange Club of Rome will present Frank Shropshire and local youth competing for the Accepting the Challenge of Excellence Award at their meeting at noon on Friday. The 2018 Leprechaun­a-thon 5K race will be held March 17 at 7:30 p.m. Runners and walkers should wear green for a chance to win prizes at the pre-race costume contest. Chieftains Museum/ Major Ridge Home and the Berry College will co-sponsor a lecture titled “Duyuk’ dv’ I: The Correct Way in Cherokee” by Tom Belt on

The speaker, Tom Belt, is the Western Carolina University Cherokee language program coordinato­r. The Berry Singers will have a pre-tour concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Berry College Chapel, Berry College, 2277 Martha Berry Highway. Works originally

conducted by Austrian composer Franz Herzog and American composer Mark Popeney and historic works by Johannes Brahms and Antonin Dvorak will be performed along with folk songs. Berry College Director of Choral Activities Paul Neal will conduct. The event is free and open to the public.

Kiwanis Club of Rome will host its annual music

showcase on March 10 from 1-4 p.m. at Ford Auditorium, Berry College, 2277 Martha Berry Highway. Rome and Floyd County schools students in ninth through 12th grades and home-school students who reside in Rome or Floyd County are eligible to participat­e. Student performanc­es may be vocal or instrument­al. Judges will select the top three performers to receive Kiwanis education scholarshi­ps ranging from $200 to $1,000. Georgia Legal Services Program assistance will be available in the Judicial Courthouse, 3 Government Plaza, Suite 114 on Friday from 9 a.m.-noon to assist low-income clients in a range of civil matters including TPOs, public benefits, housing, consumer issues, school suspension­s and unemployme­nt. An Affair to Remember:
