County seeks input on long-range plan

A public meeting tonight at the Rome Civic Center is the first of a series of workshops aimed at getting input into the way Floyd County should look in the future.
Planning Director Artagus Newell will host the kick-off session on the 2040 Rome-Floyd Cave Spring Comprehensive Plan beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the facility on Jackson Hill.
“The comprehensive plan serves as an overall guidebook for community growth and development — including housing, transportation, land-use, economic development, and other areas,” Newell said. The state of Georgia requires communities with permit-issuing authority to update their comp plan every 10 years.
During the kick-off session, residents and property owners will get an introduction to the plan, the process and expected outcomes.
A second session is scheduled for March 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Thornton Recreation Center, 102 North Floyd Park Road in Armuchee.
There also are two public outreach workshops, where people will be able to weigh in on the plan: March 20 at Cave Spring Community Center, 10B Georgia Ave. in Cave Spring; and Shannon Scout Hut, 40 Minshew Road in Shannon. Both start at 6:30 p.m.
The draft plan will be presented May 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Anthony Recreation Center, 2901 Garden Lakes Blvd., and the final plan will be unveiled at 6:30 p.m. June 5 at the Fire Administration Building, 409 E. 12th St. in Rome.
