Robert Wendell Womack
Mr. Robert Wendell Womack, age 82, of Rome, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at his residence.
Mr. Womack was born in Rome, Georgia on March 7, 1935, the son of the late Robert Elmer Womack and the late Margaret Blanche Tollett Womack. He grew up in the Celanese Community, where his father was a foreman in the Tubize Plant.
Mr. Womack graduated from Rome High School, Class of 1953, where he was the senior class vice president and voted Most Likely to Succeed. He graduated from Auburn University in 1957 with a Bachelor Degree in Business. While attending Auburn University he was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega Service fraternity.
As a young man he was an Eagle Scout and member of The Order of the Arrow. Mr. Womack was active in many civic organizations, and was a former president of the Cedartown Jaycees and a former president of the Metro-Rome Kiwanis Club.
Mr. Womack was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rome where he taught Youth Sunday School and Sunday School for senior citizens at the High Rise Apartments.
Mr. Womack is survived by his wife of 62 years, JoAnn, to whom he was married on July 14, 1953. His three children, Mary Beth Womack Akins and her husband, Andrew; Robert Wendell Womack Jr.; and Amy Celeste Womack Wheeler and her husband, Scott, all of Rome; two grandchildren, Laura Kate Steadman Green and her husband, Justin, of Stone Mountain, and Jeremy Corbett Steadman of Rome; and one great-grandchild, Duncan Henry Green.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at Daniel’s Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 12:00 noon and the service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Thomas B. Griffin Chapel of Daniel’s with the Rev. Lee Smollar officiating. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, Georgia 30346.

Rev. Beck was born in Floyd County, Georgia on January 30, 1935, son of the late Homer Daniel Beck and the late Millie Romines Beck. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rosanel Thompson Beck, by a daughter, Glenda Beck, by a step-son, Joe Lindsey, and by two sisters, Edna Norton and Mary Jane Hall. Rev. Beck was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a member of the New Zion Baptist Church. Prior to retirement, he worked for Rome Paper Company.
Survivors include four children, Wayne Beck and his wife, Patsy, Kingston; Michael Beck, Rome; Debra Ann Atkins and her husband, Robert, Rome; and Richard Beck, Kingston; two step-sons, Cary Lindsey and Tim Lindsey; a sister, Barbara Loveless, Rome; a brother, Daniel Leon Beck, Rome; twelve grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, greatgreat grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Buddy Floyd, the Rev. Thomas Matthews and the Rev. Bobby Garner officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Kenneth Crowe officiating and the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard presenting military honors.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. At other hours, they may be contacted at the residence.
Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers and are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.

Robert Earl Gambrell
Mr. Robert Earl “Bobby” Gambrell, age 68, of Rome, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018, in a local hospital.
Mr. Gambrell was born in Greenwood, S.C. on October 2, 1949, son of the late Joe Eddie Gambrell and the late Margaret Ann Ferrell Gambrell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Gail Palmore Gambrell, and by two sisters, Sylvia Stoner and Joyce Peterson. Mr. Gambrell served honorably in the United States Navy from April 1972 until April 1974. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with the family business, Gambrell Sewing Center, here in Rome. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his son, Robert Earl “Robbie” Gambrell II, and his wife, Kelly, Adairsville; two grandchildren, Avery and Anniston Gambrell; two brothers, Larry Gambrell, and his wife, Debbie, Silver Creek, and Joe Gambrell, North Carolina; nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 4 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel. The Rev. Jack Foley will officiate with the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard presenting military honors.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Thursday from 3 p.m. until the service hour.
