The Berry College Memorial Library, Berry College, 2277 Martha Berry Highway, will host preeminent Eudora Welty scholar and 2018 recipient of the Governor’s Award in the Arts and Humanities Pearl
McHaney at 7:30 p.m. today for a lecture titled “Eudora Welty: Human Rights in Prose and Photography.” The lecture is free and open to the public. McHaney is the editor of a number of books by Welty, a Georgia State University Kenneth M. England Professor of Southern Literature and the featured speaker for the Buzz and Barbara Mote McCoy Southern Women Writers Lecture at Berry.

Georgia Legal Services Program assistance will be available in the Judicial Courthouse, 3 Government Plaza, Suite 114 on Friday from 9 a.m.-noon to assist low-income clients in a range of civil matters including
TPOs, public benefits, housing, consumer issues, school suspensions and unemployment. This free service is provided on the second Friday of each month. For more information about assistance call 706291-5190.

The Blues will take place Friday at the Rome Civic Center from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. There will be food, fellowship and live blues instrumental and vocal performances by local musicians and vocalists. SATURDAY
Kiwanis Club of Rome will host its annual music
showcase on Saturday from 1-4 p.m. at Ford Auditorium, Berry College, 2277 Martha Berry Highway. Rome and Floyd County schools students in ninth through 12th grades and homeschool students who reside in Rome or Floyd County are eligible to participate. Student performances may be vocal or instrumental. Judges will select the top three performers to receive Kiwanis education scholarships ranging from $200 to $1,000.
