- JAMESTOWN:

Kathryn Corbin Gravitt,

94, of Rome, died March 7, 2018. Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, has charge of the arrangemen­ts.

Charles Franklin Tucker,

80, of Rome, died March 8, 2018. Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, has charge of the arrangemen­ts.

Edna Vivian Earle Whatley,

92, died March 8, 2018. Daniel’s Funeral Home has charge of the arrangemen­ts.

Major Green B. Williams Jr.,

of Augusta, died March 8, 2018. Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, Augusta, has charge of the arrangemen­ts. years. He then spent 22 years working at Savannah Council of Government­s as Director of Lower Community Developmen­t. While in Rome, he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout and was class President of McHenry High School 1945. Later in life, he organized the first McHenry High reunions. Green was a member of Masonic Lodge, Lindale, Ga. Green was also a member of Scottish Rite and Fort Worth Masonic Temple. He gave generously of his time and talents to Ascension Lutheran Church.

Family members include his daughters, Carla Rossiter of Cape Cod, Mass., Amy J. Long (David) of Summervill­e, S.C.; son: Norman Williams (Kathy) of Evans, Ga.; grandchild­ren: Collin Williams, Walker Long, Sullivan Long, and Wren Williams. He is preceded in death by his parents, Green B. Williams Sr. and Mary Lou Maddox Williams, and son, Green B. Williams III.

Funeral service with military honors will be accorded Sunday, March 11, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Freed officiatin­g. Interment will be at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens in Rome, Ga. The family will receive friends Sunday one hour prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the church.

Rome and Floyd County schools students in ninth through 12th grades and home-school students who reside in Rome or Floyd County are eligible to participat­e. Student performanc­es may be vocal or instrument­al. Judges will select the top three performers to receive Kiwanis education scholarshi­ps ranging from $200 to $1,000. The residents of the Jamestown community recently funded and installed this entrance sign as part of the Jamestown’s Community Pride Project. Although Jamestown was establishe­d in the 1920s, there had never been an entrance sign.
