Rome police beefing up patrols

- From staff reports

DUI patrols will be increased during the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

The Rome Police Department Selective Enforcement Unit will be increasing DUI patrols from Thursday through Sunday and targeting impaired drivers during peak travel times over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday weekend, according to a RPD press release.

The RPD urges partygoers to designate a sober driver for their holiday festivities and be careful of those who may be driving intoxicated. If you are a pedestrian, you are in particular peril, the release stated. A driver does not need to be impaired to have difficulty seeing a pedestrian on the roadway at night.

Pedestrians can take additional precautions to stay visible including wearing reflectors as well as sticking to the sidewalks and only crossing roads at crosswalks.
