No charges expected in wreck which resulted in 2 deaths

The couple from Wisconsin was not in a crosswalk and crossed in non-lighted part of Ga. 53.

CALHOUN — No charges are expected to be filed in a Friday night wreck on Hwy. 53 in Calhoun which resulted in the death of two pedestrian­s, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

According to the Georgia State Patrol:

Around 7:45 p.m. on March 9, Douglas D. Molzahn, 81, and Helen V. Molzahn, 82, both of Egg Harbor, Wis., were crossing Hwy. 53 in the area of Applebees. The couple was not in a crosswalk and the area is not lighted. A Calhoun man who was driving a Ford F-150 truck struck the two pedestrian­s. No charges are expected to be filed.

Multiple first responders and agencies responded to the scene. Douglas Molzahn was pronounced dead at the scene, while Helen Molzahn was pronounced dead at Gordon Hospital.

Rockmart teen out on bond

CEDARTOWN — A Rockmart teen who was accused last week of sending a threatenin­g post over social media that later caused Polk School District to go on lockdown is out on bond.

17-year-old Zoriah Erin McCrae was released on a $5,000 property bond and several other conditions by Superior Court Judge Michael Murphy in an order signed on March 6.

She is under house arrest with an ankle monitor and is only able to leave for attendance at church or other court authorized reasons. McCrae is also barred from accessing the internet or social and is barred from entering Polk School District property unless authorized by the district.

The court also ordered that she was barred from any access to any firearms.

McCrae is charged with two counts of felony terroristi­c threats and acts.

Police seeking help finding suspect

CEDARTOWN — A reward is being offered by the owner of three horses that were shot over the weekend in the Cedartown area as police continue to investigat­e the incident.

Polk County Police Detective Josh Smith said the department is seeking help to find out who fired a shotgun the horses in a pasture off Hwy. 101 on Saturday afternoon in the Cedartown area.

Owner Corey Easterwood posted on his Facebook page that he is offering a $1,000 reward for informatio­n that leads to the conviction of whoever shot his horses.

Police reported that the three animals appeared to be hit with rounds filled with bird shot, and one of the three additional­ly hit with a round of buck shot from a shotgun.
