Firefighter dies after collapsing at station

MARIETTA — A veteran Cobb County firefighter died Monday after collapsing at a fire station in Vinings, according to county officials.

Stacey Leigh Boulware, 44, collapsed after responding to back-to-back incidents, which included a full arrest and a vehicle accident, according to Lt. Dan Dupree, spokesman for the Cobb Fire Department. Earlier Monday, Boulware had successfully completed the department’s annual physical agility test.

After collapsing, Boulware was taken by ambulance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, but died after resuscitation efforts failed, Dupree said.

Boulware began her fire career in June 1999 and had been a longtime member of the department’s Hazardous Materials Team, Dupree said. She served at several fire stations over her career.

In 2015, Boulware received the Firehouse Magazine Heroism Award and the Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services Firefighter Cross after rescuing someone trapped in an apartment during a fire, Dupree said.

Funeral arrangements are pending the arrival of family from out of state, Dupree said.

The oil that leaked beyond the Coats property is believed to be small, similar to the amount of residual oil that would run off from a big box store parking lot during a rain shower.

Anyone with information concerning this crime should contact the Rossville Police Department or Walker County Sheriff’s Office. The thieves left behind a bag filled with copper and some tools. A reward of $1,000 is being offered by Walker County Government for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. The Walker County Messenger
