Model teams overtake Chattooga

A windy Tuesday afternoon set the Model boys’ and girls’ tennis teams up for a 5-0 win over their Chattooga counterpar­ts as part of a packed afternoon at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College.

Model’s girls got the sweep thanks in part to a second set tie-breaker from Emily Hicks and Maci Early at No. 1 doubles as they won 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).

Singles matches were won by Evelyn Edwards (6-0, 6-1), Kate Russell (62, 6-2) and Reagan Dooley (6-3, 6-2). Brooke Roberts and Miaya Blanton took their No. 2 doubles match by forfeit.

The undefeated streak stayed intact for the Blue Devils (8-0). Parker Stone won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles while Kyle Hale won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 and Eli Abdou won 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 slot. Doubles matches went to Justin Roberts and Micah Veillon (6-0, 6-2), and Chase Geier and Griffin Burgess (6-0, 6-0).

Rockmart sweeps Pepperell

Rockmart’s boys’ and girls’ squads fought off a determined Pepperell group to collect 5-0 wins Tuesday.

The boys’ No. 1 singles match went to the Jackets’ Timothy Malone, 6-1, 6-3, while Jackson Norris came through at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 7-5 and Bennett Vest won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

In the doubles matches, Elijah Malone and Hunter England gave Rockmart (8-2) the 6-2, 6-1 win, and Dylan Mahan and Gavin Tan pulled out the win at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.

Winning for Rockmart’s girls were Emma Evans (6-1, 6-0), Mary Ella Owen (6-0, 6-0) and Taylor McVey (6-4, 6-2) in singles play.

Doubles matches went to Alexis Clanton and Anna Smith (6-3, 6-0), and Alexis Casey and Rose Haney (6-4, 6-2). Rockmart is now 9-1.
