Proceeds will support the rebuilding of neighborho­od tennis facilities identified by the Puerto Rican Tennis Associatio­n and will help fund tennis programs for local children. The Rome affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental

Illness will meet Monday from 6-7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 202 E. Third Ave. Dr. Smita Varshney will address the importance of sound medication management in the recovery process of people living with a mental illness. There will be a Q&A period. Historic Downtown Rome will host the first Downtown Rome Saturday on May 5 beginning at 9 a.m. There will be visual art, live music, culinary flavors, cultural performanc­es and the inaugural Rome Lantern Parade. Kiwanis Club of Rome will

display its annual art showcase at the Rome-Floyd County Library, 205 Riverside Parkway, on April 3-11. Art showcase participan­ts must be students in grades 6-12. Special recognitio­n will be given to first-, second- and thirdplace winners for each grade level. Academic scholarshi­ps ranging from $200 to $1,000 will be awarded for students in grades 9-12. Awards will presented on April 5 at 6 p.m. Participan­ts should be present for the awards ceremony. The deadline for applicatio­n submission is Tuesday

Berry Museum will present “Sanctuary at Berry: Wildlife Photograph­y by Gena

Flanigen” through Aug. 18. This exhibition explores Berry College’s wild inhabitant­s, including a variety of birds, mammals and reptiles. Berry faculty and community members will present lectures on white-tailed deer, the Berry College bald eagles, striped bass spawning and more. Habitat for Humanity

Coosa Valley is accepting applicatio­ns for the “A Brush with Kindness” program. The program assists homeowners in Floyd County by painting and performing minor repairs on the exterior of their homes. The homeowner repays the cost of the materials and supplies through a no-interest loan. Applicatio­ns may be picked up at the ReStore, 95 Three Rivers Drive. There is a $10 fee for a background check. Homeowners will be required to make a 10-percent down payment on the estimated cost of the project.

The Coosa River Basin

Initiative is seeking businesses and school, civic and church groups to participat­e in Rome’s

Big Float on June 2. More than 1,000 people are needed to create a mile-long chain of inner tubes and inflatable­s. Discounted group registrati­on rates are available. Regular registrati­on is $25, with children 12 and younger floating for free. Participan­ts receive an event T-shirt, tube rental and shuttle service to and from the river. Following the float there will be food, music and games at Heritage Park. Sponsorshi­p opportunit­ies are available.
