The Berry Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and the Viking Drumline will perform at 3 p.m. on Saturday on the Ford grounds at Berry College, 2277 Martha Berry Highway. Assistant Professor of Music Lauren Denney Wright and artist-in-residence John David will be directing. The event is free and open to the public. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs.

Third Street Ministries will distribute free clothing to those in need on Saturday and Tuesday from noon4 p.m.in the parking lot of Rome First United Methodist Church, located between Second and Third St.

The Women’s Auxiliary of The Salvation Army will sponsor a fundraisin­g GoGo mile and 5K “Run for the Homeless” on Saturday. For more informatio­n visit www. SalvationA­rmyRome.org.

The Last Stop Gift Shop, 402 Civic Center Drive, will host a Spring Art Market on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. daily. Admission and parking are free. Shop locally-made fine art, handmade gifts, culinary treats and collectibl­es.

TUESDAY

The Berry College Student Honors Recital will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in the Ford Auditorium, Berry College, 2277 Martha Berry Highway. In conjunctio­n with the Berry College Symposium on Student Scholarshi­p and sponsored by Pi Kappa Lambda, select Berry College music students will perform solo works demonstrat­ing their talents and courses of study.

The Berry College String Ensembles will give their annual spring concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Ford Auditorium, Berry College, 2277 Martha Berry Highway. The concert will showcase Berry’s string ensembles in a mixed chamber music setting and is free and open to the public.

The 1959 graduating classes of East Rome and West Rome High Schools will meet for lunch on Tuesday at noon at O’Charley’s, 737 Turner McCall Blvd. Graduates, spouses and friends of classmates are invited. Call Judy Ballard Dempsey at 706-237-2606 with questions.

The Georgia Highlands College Political Science and Criminal Justice student group will host Floyd County Chief of Police Mark Wallace on April 12 at 11:15 a.m. in the Student Center, Georgia Highlands College, 3175 Cedartown Highway.

The Rome Chapter of The Compassion­ate Friends will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. in the lower classrooms at Redmond Regional Medical Center, 501 Redmond Road. Enter the outpatient area and take the elevator to the lower level. This support group is for those who have lost their child, grandchild or sibling. Darlington School freshman and Rome-Floyd Parks & Recreation will host the Floyd County Special Olympics at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at Darlington School, 1014 Cave Spring Road. Young athletes representi­ng Rome City Schools, Floyd County Schools and Georgia School for the Deaf will participat­e the events. The public is invited to attend. Berry College will host award-winning poet Jennifer Michael Hecht at 7 p.m. on Thursday at McAllister Auditorium, Berry College, 2277 Martha Berry Highway. The event is free and open to the public. Her piece “The Next Ancient World” won the Tupelo Press Judge’s Prize in Poetry, the Poetry Society of America’s Norma Farber First Book Award and the Foreword Review’s Poetry Book of the Year Award.

Kiwanis Club of Rome will display its annual art showcase at the RomeFloyd County Library, 205 Riverside Parkway, through Wednesday. Art showcase participan­ts are students in grades 6-12.

The Friends of the Library will sponsor a paperback book sale in the Coosa Room at RomeFloyd County Library, 205 Riverside Parkway on Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and April 14 from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Regular size paperbacks will be $0.25 and all oversize paperbacks will be $0.50. Magazines will be priced from $0.10-$0.25.
