Berry College, 2277 Martha Berry Highway, will host Missourian poet and editor Gabriel Fried to read his award-winning poetry at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Berry College Chapel. Fried has authored two collection­s of poetry “The Children are Reading” and winner of the Kathryn A. Morton Prize “Making the New Lamb Take,” and his works were named a top poetry collection by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Foreword Reviews. His poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, the American Scholar and the Paris Review. He is an assistant professor of creative writing at the University of Missouri. This event is free and open to the public.

Latin Ministries Extended will have a golf outing at Stonebridg­e Golf Club on Friday at 8 a.m. Four-person scramble is $75 per player and includes green fees and cart, compliment­ary services, biscuit and coffee, individual or group photograph­y, an appreciati­on gift and dinner. Prizes will be presented for closest to the pin, longest drive and first place. Proceeds will benefit Latin Ministries Extended, which does household repair work for low-income families and widows; collects food, clothing and school supplies for children in need locally; and performs mission work internatio­nally by constructi­ng shelters for the indigent. Harbin Clinic’s Walk With A Doc April 21

will return at 9 a.m. at Bridgepoin­t Plaza, Downtown Rome, with pulmonolog­ist Dr. Jennifer Barbieri leading. Each month a Harbin Clinic physician leads a group on a roughly 2-mile walk and talks about the health benefits of exercise. Walks are scheduled for the third Saturday of each month through October. The Moon Gallery, Berry College, 2277 Martha Berry Highway, will host the Annual Student Honors Show April 23May 4. The show features pieces made in the Berry College Art Program. Artist Pinky Bass will speak about her inspiratio­ns and announce student award winners at the opening ceremony at 11 a.m. on April 24. Bass’ work has been a part of many collection­s including the Philadelph­ia Museum of Art, Birmingham Museum of Art and the High Museum in Atlanta. The Coosa River Basin

Initiative is seeking businesses and school, civic and church groups to participat­e in Rome’s

Big Float on June 2. More than 1,000 people are needed to create a mile-long chain of inner tubes and inflatable­s. Regular registrati­on is $25, with children 12 and younger floating for free. Group registrati­on rates are available. Participan­ts receive a T-shirt, tube rental and shuttle service to and from the river. Afterwards there will be food, music and games at Heritage Park.
