Man charged with tree-work scam

A Bartow County man is charged with felony theft by deception and exploitati­on of an elder person after allegedly charging for tree work that was never completed.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Phillip Gregory Maples, 52, of 116 Cass St., Adairsvill­e, was arrested Wednesday on charges he convinced an elderly disabled woman back in March that two trees in the back yard of her South Rome property were rotten and needed to be cut down.

The warrant claims the trees showed no signs of rot and that Maples charged the victim $3,800 for the work but never completed the job.

He was released from jail Thursday on a $5,700 bond.

Report: Man tried to destroy evidence

A Rome man is charged with felony possession of cocaine and tampering with evidence during a police investigat­ion at his home on Weathingto­n Road.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Steven Franklin Boswell, 37, of 82 Weathingto­n Road, had a bag with suspected marijuana and a white powder believed to be cocaine, wrapped in paper. Police said Boswell tried to dump the cocaine out of the paper onto the ground and then tried to blow some of it off his vehicle.

When police officers ordered him to stop he refused.

In addition to the two felonies, Boswell was charged with misdemeano­rs for possession of marijuana and willful obstructio­n of an officer.

Boswell was released from jail Thursday on a $5,700 bond.

Man charged with setting vehicle on fire

A Rome man has been jailed after setting fire to a vehicle causing more than $500 in damage, reports stated.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Clifton Jeffrey Haney, 56, of 18 Williamson St., was arrested Wednesday on a warrant charging him with arson in the second degree for setting a vehicle on fire Tuesday evening around 5 p.m. Haney was also charged with a felony for criminal damage to property and misdemeano­rs for unlawful use of a license plate and canceled registrati­on.

He was released from jail Thursday on a $7,900 bond.

Bank fraud leads to woman’s arrest

A woman is charged with felony theft by deception after allegedly depositing a fraudulent check and then withdrawin­g the funds, reports stated.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Mandy Allison Todd, 35, of 1289 Doyle Road, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant claiming she deposited a check for $3,500 from a closed bank account in a local bank account in December, then withdrew the cash two days later.

She was released from jail Thursday on a $3,500 bond.

Man charged with oxycodone, marijuana

A Rome man faces felony possession of a Schedule II drug and misdemeano­r possession of marijuana charges following his arrest at a local convenienc­e store.

According to Floyd

County Jail reports:

Robert Harold Whorton Jr., 40, of 5 Whitehead St., was arrested at a store on Burnett Ferry Road just before 6 p.m. Wednesday evening in possession of a bag with marijuana and a quantity of oxycodone.

He was released from jail Thursday on a $3,500 bond.

Report: Woman used fork to make threats

A Rome woman is being held in the Floyd County Jail without bond Thursday night on a felony terroristi­c threat charge for reportedly threatenin­g to injure a person with a fork.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Susan Paulette Livingston, 62, of 1354 Old Cave Spring Road, was also charged with simple assault for the incident that occurred Wednesday night at her residence.

Police chase leads to felony charge

A Rome woman was released from jail Thursday on a $16,900 bond after being charged with felony fleeing or attempting to elude an officer charge from a chase last week.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Brittany Nicole Waits, 33, of 11 Lee St., fled from police at high rates of speed in the area of Hillside Avenue and Tyler Street in West Rome on April 26.

Waits faces more than a dozen misdemeano­r traffic related offenses as a result of the incident.
