Neaton employee’s vehicle taken while at work

While a man and his wife were working at Neaton Rome on Tuesday morning, their 2009 Dodge Caliber was stolen from a parking lot at 1634 Technology Parkway.

According to Rome police reports:

The vehicle, valued at $3,000, was parked at the business around 9 a.m., when the man and his wife went into work. Then around 11:30 a.m. the man’s wife went outside for a smoke break and the car was gone. The man initially thought one of his work friends was pulling a prank on him and had moved the car to another parking spot. An officer drove through the parking lot but could not find the vehicle.

Surveillan­ce footage shows a man walking from the west side of the building and head toward the vehicle. As he got closer to it, he put up his hood and went to open the car door. The vehicle is then shown being pulled out of the parking space and leaving out the front entrance of the business.

The vehicle was unlocked at the time of the theft, as the owner said there have not been any problems with vehicle thefts in the area. His wife’s inhaler and thyroid medication were inside the car at the time.

$3,300 reported missing

The controller for Courtesy Ford Lincoln of Rome reported to Rome police Monday that two cash payments totaling $3,300 were missing as was paperwork on sale of a used vehicle.

According to Rome police reports:

Rome police investigat­ors went out to the dealership at 101 U.S. 411 late Monday morning to speak with the controller. The first incident happened on April 19, when $3,000 and paperwork for a used vehicle sale were missing. The second incident occurred Saturday afternoon, when a cash payment of $300 was lost and is now unaccounte­d for.

Investigat­ors have taken in surveillan­ce footage to review. They have also interviewe­d the controller about how cash is handled at the dealership along with speaking to the employee who originally received the payments. At the time of the report Monday, they were attempting to set up an interview with the manager of the dealership.

Vehicle stolen from U-Haul business

A 2007 Ford E-450, valued at $10,695, which had been up for sale at a Shorter Avenue U-Haul business, was reported stolen Tuesday.

According to Rome police reports:

The former U-Haul vehicle, which had the company’s logos removed, had been parked and put up for sale at 2447 Shorter Ave. On Friday around 4:55 a.m., surveillan­ce footage captured two men walking up from behind the storage buildings, get into the vehicle and drive off. The employee told police she had been gone from the business and did not notice the vehicle was missing until Tuesday morning.

3 locals accused of robbery, battery

Three Rome residents accused of robbing and beating a man in his Avery Road home were in jail without bond Tuesday night.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

County police arrested Brian Keith Pickard, 23, of 26 Northside Drive; Trynity Raykae Green, 18, of 43 Pinecrest Drive; and David Dante Haywood, 18, of 105 Brookwood Ave., shortly after the Monday night attack.

They’re accused of going to the man’s home with a black BB gun pistol and beating him, leaving him bleeding from the head. They took $160 cash from his wallet and a folding pocket knife.

Pickard, Green and Haywood are each charged with felony armed robbery, battery and theft by taking.

Man to face burglary charges

A Rome man listed as homeless was brought from the Gordon County Jail to face charges in two local burglaries.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Joseph David Soler, 45, was booked into the jail Monday on two felony burglary warrants. He was in jail Tuesday night pending a $7,900 bond.

Soler is accused of entering a home on Martha Berry Boulevard on April 22 and taking $747 in cash, a $600 Apple iPhone, a $45 DVR, a $1,500 credit card machine, a $250 computer and a $50 security camera. He’s also charged with entering the Enterprise Car Rental office on Martha Berry Boulevard on May 1 and damaging video electronic equipment and a computer.

NWGHA: Thief stole copper wiring

Rome police are investigat­ing the theft of copper wiring from a house under constructi­on on Hilda Curtis Lane. According to police reports: The house at 19 Hilda Curtis Lane is part of a group being built for the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority. A representa­tive of the NWGHA said sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning, someone cut and stripped copper wiring from the structure — estimated at $1,000 to replace — and took $250 worth of shower valves.

Pistol taken from car at Quality Inn

A Florida man who was staying at the Quality Inn on Monday night reported to Rome police Tuesday morning that someone had gotten inside his unlocked truck and taken his Glock 42 .380-caliber pistol.

According to Rome police reports:

The man arrived at the hotel at 40 Grace Drive, off U.S. 411, around 6 p.m. Monday. He told police he planned on leaving again to get something to eat but fell asleep. When he woke up Tuesday around 5:55 a.m. and went out to his truck, he found the center console open and items were strewn about. But the pistol, valued at $500, was the only item taken.
