Whitten approved as new KSU president

MARIETTA — Pamela Whitten is the new president of Kennesaw State University.

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia unanimousl­y approved Whitten’s appointmen­t at its meeting Tuesday morning.

Whitten will leave her post as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of Georgia to take over at KSU. She was named the sole finalist for the KSU president position last week.

Whitten will take over the president’s office from Ken Harmon, KSU’s former provost who had been serving as interim president since February.

Whitten has held her position at UGA since 2014. Before joining UGA, Whitten served as dean of the College of Communicat­ion Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University. Prior to that, she was director for telemedici­ne at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Whitten has a Ph.D. in communicat­ion studies from the University of Kansas, a master’s degree in organizati­onal communicat­ion from the University of Kentucky and a bachelor’s degree in business, magna cum laude, from Tulane University, according to the

Adairsvill­e police are looking for a woman who broke into the Click Mart at 932 Hwy. 140 early Tuesday morning.

According to the Adairsvill­e Police Department:

The woman, described as a white female wearing a dark colored hoodie with a W on the front, shorts, sunglasses and sandals, broke out a window and then entered the store through the window.

She went behind the counter and grabbed several packs of cigarettes before exiting the store. The suspect then got in the passenger side of a 2001 to 2006 charcoal grey Dodge Stratus and left.

The driver of the vehicle is of unknown race and gender but is seen wearing black pants, a dark-colored hoodie with a white T-shirt underneath, white socks and dark sandals. If you recognize either of these subjects or the vehicle please notify Det. Eric Burns at 678409-5220.
