Mr. James Gayden “Jim” Parnell, age 86, of Rome, passed away Thursday evening, June 28, 2018, in a local hospital.

Mr. Parnell was born in West Columbia, S.C. on May 18, 1932, son of the late James Sarah Parnell and the late Beulah Mae Gayden Parnell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lemming Parnell, in 2017, and by a brother, Murray William Parnell. Mr. Parnell received his Bachelor’s Degree from Clemson University. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a Sales Engineer with Oakite Products. He was a member of the Oostanaula Lodge #113 F. & A.M., the New Life Group with Alcoholics Anonymous, and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Kathleen Vincent (Michael), Trussville, Ala., and Judy Harrison (Steve), Rome; three grandchild­ren, Olivia Kathleen Vincent, Trussville, Ala., Mary Kathryn Pitner (Matt), Alpharetta, and Elliott Harrison (Kelly), Cartersvil­le; two great granddaugh­ters, Emma Gray Pitner and Charlotte Elliott Pitner, Alpharetta; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Karch and Dr. Larry Davis officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens with the Oostanaula Lodge #113 F. & A.M. in charge of graveside rites.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the service hour.

Pallbearer­s are requested to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. and include Michael Vincent, Steve Harrison, Larry Lemming, Matt Pitner, Elliott Harrison, Dennis Lemming, Gary Stiles, and Jerry Spradley.

Mr. Lee Hoge Pendley, age 69, of Rome, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018, following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Pendley was born in Chattanoog­a, Tenn. on September 27, 1948, son of the late Evelyn Hoge Pendley and the late Dr. Walter Oliver Pendley. He was a graduate of Berry Academy and was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving as a Medic in the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Berry College for over 11 years. Mr. Pendley was a member of First Presbyteri­an Church of Rome, the American Legion Post #5 in Rome, and the Berry Breakfast Club. He was an avid Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiast.

Survivors include two daughters, Erica Pendley Jones (Michael), Rome, and Shelley Pendley Anderson (Mark), Rome; a son, Daniel Pendley (Andrea), Rome; four grandchild­ren, Marc Clouatre, Silver Creek, Casey Jones, Rome, Saffron Pendley, Rome, and Ruby Pendley, Rome; his companion, Cindy Henderson, Rome; a sister, Joyce Ellis, Iowa; the mother of his children, Linda Pendley, Silver Creek; nieces and nephews.

A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Henderson & Sons Funeral

Mrs. Margaret Helen Smith Shell, age 82, of Aragon, went to be with Jesus on Friday, June 29, 2018, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Shell was born in Floyd County on January 30, 1936, daughter of the late Owen Fuller Smith and the late Margaret Retta Barber Smith. She was a long-time member of Flint Hill Baptist Church and prior to her retirement was employed by Integrated Manufactur­ing and Pet Bakery. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmothe­r, and great grandmothe­r and devoted her entire life to her family. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Glynn Shell Sr.; by two children, Lydia Fay Shell and Rodney Michael Shell Sr.; by a grandson, Rodney “Michael” Shell Jr.; and by several siblings.

Survivors include her children, Dianne Morgan (Steve), Kathy Hames (Johnny), Glynn Shell Jr., Wilburn Shell (Carol), and Judy Kochanski (David), all of Aragon; one sister, Edna Smith Boatner, Silver Creek; a brother, Mathey Gray “Matt” Smith, Lindale; 15 grandchild­ren, 36 great grandchild­ren, 1 great, great granddaugh­ter; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at 3 p.m. at Flint Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Don Spears and Chaplain George Nix will officiate. Interment will follow in Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Flint Hill Baptist Church on Sunday from 1 p.m. until time for the service. At other hours, they may be contacted at each of their respective residences.

Pallbearer­s are asked to assemble at Flint Hill Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday and include grandsons, James Shell, Leon Shell, Josh Kochanski, and Jared Kochanski, and great grandsons, Cade Tanner, Lewis Shell, Koby Cox, and Raley Brumbelow.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributi­ons be made to Flint Hill Baptist Church, Youth Fund, 1111 Morris Road SE, Aragon, Ga. 30104.

The family wishes to express their appreciati­on to the care team at Pruitt Hospice from their loving care given over the past year.
