Single-vehicle wreck leaves 1 dead, 2 injured

The driver of a Toyota truck died Tuesday in a single-vehicle wreck on Kingston Highway that also resulted in serious injuries to two passengers.

According to the Floyd County Police Department:

The investigat­ion into the wreck continued Tuesday night, hours after the wreck happened around noon on Kingston Highway near Mizpah United Methodist Church. The two passengers in the truck were in serious condition.

The names of those in the wreck were not released by Tuesday night as officials tried to contact family members.

Ruptured gas line closes Ga. 140

A ruptured gas line resulted in the closure of Ga. 140 from Rush Chapel Road to the Bartow County line on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Floyd County police and 911 reports:

The gas line was ruptured in several places at Ga. 140 and Buttrum Road around 4 p.m. Police and fire personnel blocked off the area to traffic, and work crews estimated repairs were going to take some time. The road remained closed late into the evening.

Personnel on scene said the shut-off valves were buried and would have to be dug down to, according to 911 reports.

Woman accused of damaging man’s property

A Rome woman was in jail without bond Tuesday night after being accused of damaging the property of a man she was living with at the Ashland Park Apartments. According to Floyd County Jail reports: Tiffani Latrice Scott, 34, of 234 Ashland Park Blvd., was arrested around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, shortly after the incident took place. She is charged with felony criminal damage to property in the second degree.

The report does not indicate what kind of property Scott damaged, but damages did exceed $500.

Spencer Lahr, staff writer Two face drug charges after traffic stop

Floyd County police arrested two people on charges of possession of methamphet­amine and marijuana Monday afternoon.

According to Floyd County Jail reports: Anthony Dewayne Hardin Jr., 26, of 1119 Medlin St., Smyrna, and Tieka Tawanna Izor, 27, of 808 Polk St., Rockmart, were in the vehicle when it was stopped just after 3 p.m. in the 6100 block of Rockmart Highway

Both are charged with felony possession of methamphet­amine and felony possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime as well as misdemeano­r possession of marijuana and drug related objects. Hardin is also charged with driving on a suspended license.

Hardin and Izor were released from jail Tuesday on $5,700 bonds each.

Shopliftin­g arrest leads to drug charge

A woman who was stopped for taking items from Walmart on Cartersvil­le Highway also had methamphet­amine in her purse, reports stated. According to Floyd County Jail reports: Mary Elizabeth Pointer 34, of 121 Grove Ave., Lindale, left the store with items in her bags that had not been paid for. When police arrived and went through her purse they also found methamphet­amine.

Pointer is charged with felony possession of meth and a misdemeano­r for shopliftin­g. She remained in jail Tuesday night pending a $5,700 bond.

Rome man faces felony for bringing marijuana into jail

A Rome man who was initially arrested on another charge has also been charged with a felony for bringing marijuana into the Floyd County Jail, reports stated. According to Floyd County Jail reports: Todd Jeramie Breaux, 35, of 303 E. 18th St., had marijuana and a pipe in his backpack when he was brought into the jail on Monday after his arrest at Calhoun Avenue and Perkins Street on unrelated charges.

He was initially arrested on a failure to appear warrant and subsequent­ly charged with a felony for bringing contraband into the jail and a misdemeano­r for possession of marijuana.

Breaux remained in jail Tuesday night pending bonds of $3,500 for the drug charges and $5,200 for failure to appear.

Man charged with possession of stolen motorcycle

A Rome man was jailed on a felony theft by receiving a stolen property charge. According to Floyd County Jail reports: Gary Wayne Acrey Jr., 45, of 1771 Big Texas Valley Road, was determined to have been in possession of a stolen 1995 Honda motorcycle at a location on Rebecca Street on April 3.

Acrey has also been charged with failure to felony appear in court. He was being held in jail without bond pending charges from the Calhoun Police Department.

Doug Walker, associate editor 2 report lost or stolen pistols

Two Floyd County residents reported the loss of handguns they carried with them for protection.

According to Floyd County Police Department records:

The residents said they called police to report their guns were missing out of concern the weapons could be used by whoever took them. The two incidents were not related.

One man said he left his Walther semiautoma­tic pistol in a holster at Mr. C’s gas station, 6280 Martha Berry Highway, late Saturday just before the store closed. The gun was not there Sunday when police checked.

The other man said he kept a pistol in the glove compartmen­t of his vehicle because he drove from Silver Creek to Atlanta every day. He noticed the gun missing Saturday but could not say when it was taken.
