Mr. Sonny Burnes, age 84, of Rome, passed away at a local hospital, Saturday, July 21, 2018.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 24, 2018, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Daniel’s Funeral Home. A service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Thomas B. Griffin Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Rampley officiatin­g. Interment will follow the service at Oaknoll Cemetery, Rome.

Ms. Jessie Eloise Johnson, age 97, of Rome, passed away at a local healthcare facility Monday, July 23, 2018.

The Georgia Mountain Music Club and the Charles C. Parker Senior Center will sponsor a day trip to the Georgia Mountain Fair on Thursday. The fair will have three bluegrass bands performing, arts and crafts, food and carnival rides. Cost is $25 each for transporta­tion and admission to the fair. A brand new Beginner Line Dance Class will start this Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. (10 - 12 week class) at the Charles C. Parker Center, 1325 Kingston Highway. The Charles C. Parker Senior Center, 1325 Kingston Highway, will host a social dance on Friday featuring ballroom dance music. The Gary Tillman Memorial Clocktower 5K Road Race and 2-Mile Health Walk will be held Aug. 18 at 8 a.m. starting at Heritage Park. Habitat for Humanity Coosa Valley is accepting applicatio­ns for its “A Brush with Kindness” program. The program assists homeowners in Floyd County by painting and performing minor repairs on the exterior of their homes. Applicatio­ns may be picked up at the ReStore, 95 Three Rivers Drive. Oak Hill & The Martha Berry Museum will present “Sanctuary at Berry: Wildlife Photograph­y by Gena Flanigen” through Aug. 18. Floyd County Superior Court Clerk Barbara H. Penson requests that veterans of all military branches of service be sure their DD-214 discharge is recorded at the courthouse. Veterans may record their DD-214 in Floyd County in addition to their hometown, county or state. The Visitors Center at Howard Finster’s Paradise Garden will have artwork on display by Summervill­e’s Donnie Davis through Sept. 1. Davis’ current collection is comprised of a series of paintings depicting various scenes in and around Paradise Garden. Davis teaches painting classes for adults at Paradise Garden. Chieftains Museum/ Major Ridge Home will host the annual Chieftains

Low Country Boil & Barbecue at 7 p.m. on Aug. 3 at the Rome Civic Center, 400 Civic Center Drive.
