A witness told police the driver of a dump truck involved in a two-vehicle wreck at the intersection of Huffaker Road and Garden Lakes Boulevard on Monday afternoon ran the red light and struck a Toyota RAV4 on the driver’s side door, before turning over and spilling dirt on the road and another vehicle.

According to Rome police officer Brandon Brown:

The drivers in the RAV4 and dump truck were both taken to a local hospital by ambulance after suffering minor injuries in the wreck. Their names were not available Monday night.

The RAV4 was heading east on Garden Lakes Boulevard just before 5 p.m. when the dump truck ran the red light while heading south on Huffaker Road, a witness told police. The dump truck hit the RAV4 on the driver’s side door and pushed it off the west side of the road on Huffaker.

After striking the RAV4, the dump truck turned over and spilled dirt onto Huffaker as well as a Honda CR-V, which was going north on Huffaker. The driver of the CR-V was not injured, but the spilled dirt had blocked her vehicle in as it swerved off the east side of the road.

The driver of the dump truck, owned by Todd Spears, was cited for running a red light.

Traffic on Huffaker Road was rerouted for over an hour.
