Sale of stolen pistol leads to additional felony charge

A Rome man was back in jail Thursday after being accused of selling a Sig Sauer 1911 pistol he stole for $200 at a local pawn shop.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Christophe­r Lee Kirk, 28, of 51 Tency Lane, was arrested Thursday morning and charged with felony theft by deception and theft by taking. He was recently released from jail after being arrested Aug. 30 on charges related to the forging of 16 checks, resulting in the loss of $3,100 from the victim’s bank account. Both the pistol and checks were taken from the same man.

He is believed to have taken the pistol from the man’s College Park Drive home and sold it at Cash America Pawn, 2419 Shorter Ave., on July 27.

He also took the checks from the man’s home, but did so in January, from which point he began forging the checks and cashing them over the next eight months.

He is charged with a felony and misdemeano­r count of theft by taking, along with 16 misdemeano­r counts of fourth-degree forgery, from that case.

Kirk was in jail without bond Thursday night.

Man charged with aggravated battery

A 23-year-0ld man is facing a felony charge of aggravated battery after being accused of beating up a woman, breaking her nose and causing extensive bruising to her body.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Austin Jason Allen, 1 Juniper St., was arrested Thursday, four days after the incident Sunday night.

He took the woman to the ground and hit her multiple times while on top of her. In addition to the broken nose and bruising, the beating also resulted in her having a swollen lip and a swollen black eye, which she said she was not able to see out of.

Allen was in jail without bond Thursday night.

Shannon woman facing drug charges

A Shannon woman was arrested Thursday morning after being accused of having methamphet­amine and marijuana in her possession at Shannon Park.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Jennifer Leann Burnett, 31, of 204 First St., was arrested at 9:10 a.m. She is charged with felony possession of meth, as well misdemeano­r possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug-related objects.

Police found a small bag of meth and a small bag of marijuana on her. She also had a glass pipe with her.

She was in jail without bond Thursday night. Spencer Lahr, staff writer

Summervill­e man’s pants stolen at Cottis Inn

Rome police are investigat­ing the theft of a man’s pants at Cottis Inn, 1105 Martha Berry Blvd.

The 45-year-old Summervill­e man told police he was “hanging out with a lady,” whose name he did not know, in one of the rooms Sunday afternoon when she suddenly jumped out of bed, took his pants and ran outside.

According to the report, the victim said his pants contained some keys, $40, an ATM bank card and four bottles of blood pressure medicine.

Report: Boys grab wallet, miss the stash

A man reported the snatch-andgrab theft of his wallet on Payne Road by two boys who fled on bicycles.

According to Floyd County police reports, the incident happened Tuesday afternoon when the boys claimed they didn’t believe how old the man was. He took out his wallet to show his driver’s license, the older one snatched it out of his hand and both boys rode off on bikes.

The wallet was found on Conn Street several hours later with $35 missing. The boys did not find the $400 stashed in a side panel of the wallet. Diane Wagner, staff writer

Traffic stop leads to multiple felony charges

A Rome man faces felony charges including terroristi­c threats and possession of firearms during the commission of a crime as the result of a traffic stop in the 400 block of Broad Street.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Richard Ryan Rood, 28, of 1 Westlyn Drive, initially refused to stop for city police just before midnight Wednesday. When they did get him stopped officers determined Rood was driving under the influence and found two open champagne bottles in the vehicle. Police also recovered two firearms and learned that Rood had made threats to cause bodily harm to a 45-year old victim.

Rood is charged with two felony counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, one felony count for making terroristi­c threats and misdemeano­rs for DUI, obstructio­n of officers, an open container violation, simple assault and disorderly conduct.

Rood is being held in the Floyd County Jail pending the posting of $7,900 bond.

Man charged with intent to distribute marijuana

A Rome man who was involved in a wreck in West Rome has been jailed, pending a $10,100 bond for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Delmarco Debron Cooper, 28, of 414 North Ave., was involved in a wreck Wednesday night at the intersecti­on of Redmond Road and Division Street. During the investigat­ion, officers from the Rome Police and Georgia State Patrol found more than an ounce of marijuana packaged for resale which they attributed to Cooper.

Cooper is charged with felony possession of marijuana and possession with the intent to distribute.

Man charged with bizarre burglary

A Floyd County man is jailed on felony counts of burglary, indecent exposure and a probation violation after the investigat­ion into a burglary at a home on Rockmart Highway on Sunday.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Robert Brian Quinn, 41, of 150 Preacher Smith Road, Silver Creek, is charged with breaking to a home in the 4000 block of Rockmart Highway Sunday afternoon. A screen porch was damaged and Quinn is accused of taking a quantity of food.

Floyd County police reported Quinn was naked during the break-in.

He is charged with criminal trespassin­g and theft by taking in addition to the felony counts and is being held in the Floyd County Jail without bond.

Tossing trash leads to felony drug charge

A woman who threw rubbish from a vehicle on Riverside Parkway was stopped by police and found in possession of marijuana and a quantity of Xanax.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Cameron Diane Toll, 18, of 2260 New St., Cleveland, Tennessee, was stopped by officers Wednesday around 4 p.m. After the stop officers recovered as quantity of marijuana from the vehicle and a couple of Xanax tablets n a Colorado retail marijuana bottle.

Toll, who is being held in the Floyd County Jail in lieu of a $3,500 bond, is charged with felony possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, and misdemeano­rs for possession of marijuana, drugs not in an original container and illegal dumping. Doug Walker, associate editor
