Police investigat­e armed robbery

Floyd County police are investigat­ing an armed robbery at the Handy Food Mart on Smith Road which resulted in the theft of a tablet from the cashier as he was locking up the store.

According to Floyd County Police Department reports:

The armed robbery was reported at 12:03 a.m. Sunday, after the suspect had fled north on Burnett Ferry Road from the store.

The cashier told police he was outside the store locking the doors when a man walked up to him and pointed a “Clint Eastwood style” revolver at him. The man pulled a bag from the cashier’s hand, shoved him to the ground and took off. Inside the bag was a tablet, but the cashier told police the man must have believed it contained cash.

Report: Man charged in beating of 17-year-old

A Kingston man was arrested on a felony warrant Monday after being accused of beating up a 17-year-old boy, resulting in his hospitaliz­ation.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Jason Edwards, 31, of 252 Blarney Way, is charged with felony first-degree cruelty to children and misdemeano­r battery. He was in jail without bond Monday night.

The incident happened at Edwards’ home on July 24, around 8:50 p.m. The victim suffered a broken nose and injuries to his shoulders from the beating. There were three witnesses to the incident.

Woman charged with meth possession

A Rome woman was in jail without bond Monday night after being accused of having methamphet­amine.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Samantha Maleigha Wilson, 31, of 42 June St., was arrested around 1:30 p.m. Monday. She is charged with felony possession of meth.

Man charged with burglary after stealing protein shake

A Rome man who broke into a local law firm’s office over the weekend faces a felony burglary charge although the only item that appeared to be missing was a $1 protein shake, reports stated.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

John Christophe­r McCormick Jr., 34, of 90 E. Second Ave., is accused of entering the Smith and Wright law office at 210 E. Second Ave. around 8 a.m. Sunday. He took the protein shake from a break room and drank it.

Police arrested McCormick at the law office. He was released from jail Monday.

Report: Shoplifter also charged with possession of cocaine

A woman who is accused of shopliftin­g from a store in the Riverbend shopping center is also facing a felony drug charge.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Kellye Elayne Newman, 41, listed as homeless, was initially stopped in the parking lot of the Kroger in the Riverbend shopping center just before 4 p.m. Sunday after walking past all of the checkout points with undisclose­d merchandis­e.

When police searched her bags, they discovered a quantity of cocaine and a glass smoking pipe.

Newman is charged with felony possession of cocaine and misdemeano­r counts of shopliftin­g and possession of drug-related objects.

She remained in jail pending a $3,500 bond on Monday night.

Polk man charged with possession of controlled substance

A Polk County resident who was stopped for operating a vehicle with an expired tag is also charged with a felony violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Billy Shane Knight, 45, of 2587 Buchanan Highway, Cedartown, was stopped by Floyd County police on U.S. 27 South near the FloydPolk line around 8:30 p.m. Sunday for driving on an expired tag.

After police searched his belongings they found suspected drug residue in a pipe.

Knight, who was being held in jail pending a $3,500 bond, was also charged with possession of drug-related objects and driving on an expired tag. Doug Walker, associate editor

Warehouse on North Avenue burglarize­d

Several items were reported stolen from a warehouse on North Avenue on Sunday morning.

According to Rome Police Department reports:

The owner of a building on North Avenue called police to report various items had been taken during a burglary at the property.

Stolen were two motorcycle helmets, two gold knives, 20 Volvo die-cast cars, an East Rome High School No. 66 jersey, two proof coin sets, a wooden bug model car, a fire truck pedal car, two Smokey and the Bandit die-cast cars, a Kiss belt buckle, Kiss radio and a Kiss mask.
