PREK-3

In PreK-3 at Saint Mary’s, Mrs. Giles’ class has learned about how God makes everything grow on Earth. We went to the chapel to thank God for things that grow. We also learned about the parable of The Sower and the Seeds, and we glued items on paper to make a collage. We learned to be like good soil and listen to God’s word to grow. We planted our seeds in the good soil. Next we learned about Jesus being the vine and we are the branches. His love grows in us, so we do good things to “Show the Love of God”. Using our fingers, we stamped the fruit for our branches.

PREK-4

Ms. Ferguson’s Pre-K 4 class had some special visitors. Our classmate, Sadie Gresham, brought in fresh water jellyfish. The jellyfish were very tiny. We used magnifying glasses to see them up close. We learned that a jellyfish does not have a brain, bones or a heart. It was so much fun to be close to jellyfish and not get stung!

KINDERGARTEN

Mrs. Abbott’s kindergarten students are learning how to be scientists. The question we are trying to answer is “What do living things need to live and grow?” One discovery we already made was that animals have to live where they can find the food they need. Then we moved on to plants, and we observed the effects of watering some radish seeds and not watering others. We also planted sunflower seeds, and we are investigating what happens when some of them don’t get any light at all. It is fun to be a scientist!

5TH GRADE

Fifth grade has been busy delving into a unit on living things. The unit started with a walk through nature to see what we could find that was living. The class spent lots of time learning about plant and animal cells. We looked at cells under microscopes, made models of cells out of play-dough and post-it notes, and made delicious edible cells in the cafeteria. Children also created their own plant or animal cells and taught the class what each organelle is and what they do. The projects were amazing; our students did such a great job!
