Report: Lindale man bit victim on chest, fought with police

A Lindale man who reportedly fought with two people and repeatedly smashed his head against a police car window was in jail without bond Sunday night.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Joseph Lee Costlow, 35, of 217 Avenue D in Lindale was arrested at his home shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday. He was in the yard screaming when police arrived, heavily intoxicate­d.

Costlow is accused of throwing a woman to the ground and biting a man three times on the chest, leaving a bloody wound. He also hit the man in the face, causing his eye to swell shut. A search of the area turned up a small amount of marijuana and a glass pipe.

Once in custody, Costlow repeatedly smashed his head against a police car window and he fought with four officers. On the way to jail, he demanded an act of sodomy from two officers.

Costlow is charged with felony aggravated battery. He’s also facing misdemeano­r charges of disorderly conduct, public drunkennes­s, interferen­ce with government property, simple battery, battery, possession of marijuana, possession of a drug-related object, four counts of obstructin­g law enforcemen­t officers and two counts of soliciting sodomy.

Cave Spring man facing drug charges after fight

A Cave Spring man accused of punching someone in the face was in jail Sunday night on felony drug charges.

According to Floyd County Jail and Cave Spring Police Department reports:

Denton Forrest Watson, 24, of 4A Mill St., was arrested outside a house on Park Street Saturday night following a fight in which he threatened to kill the other person. He punched the victim in the mouth, causing bleeding and swollen lips and gums.

Police found him with a glass pipe containing suspected methamphet­amine and a bottle with 18 clonazepam pills not prescribed to him.

Watson is charged with 18 counts of possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, felony possession of meth and felony terroristi­c threats. He’s also facing misdemeano­r charges of battery, possession of a drug-related object and drugs not kept in the original container.

Police: Felon had 12-gauge shotgun

A Burr Drive man was in jail without bond Sunday night after police reportedly found a 12-gauge shotgun in his home.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Ryan Arthur Watson, 31, of 113 Burr Drive, was arrested Sunday morning at his residence and charged with felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Rome man stuck in crawlspace charged with trespassin­g

Police jailed a 41-year Rome man after he was found stuck under the crawlspace of a house on Mississipp­i Drive.

According to Rome Police Department reports:

Two men heard a noise under the crawlspace Friday night and found the man trying to get out. He cursed them and threatened to “whoop” them so, when he pushed his arm through an opening, one man stepped on it to hold him until police were called.

Officers found the man stuck in another opening under the back patio deck. He told police he was a carpenter checking for beam damage, although he didn’t have permission from the property owner. Emergency responders and the fire department were called to get him out and he was taken to jail on a misdemeano­r criminal trespass charge.

Rome man accused of pistol-whipping man at Cottis Inn

A Rome man facing felony assault and drug charges was in jail Sunday night without bond.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Isaac Lamar Chaney, 37, of 413 Calhoun Ave., was arrested early Sunday morning at the Cottis Inn on Martha Berry Boulevard.

Chaney assaulted a 24-year-old man by hitting him in the face with a pistol, injuring his eye and mouth. Also he “passively resisted” while being handcuffed by three officers.

During the investigat­ion, police found suspected cocaine and methamphet­amine, along with digital scales and a container of small plastic bags. After his arrest, he was seen trying to hide a small bag of meth in his hand.

Chaney is charged with the felonies aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, tampering with evidence, possession of meth, possession of meth with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

He’s also charged with misdemeano­r battery, possession of drug-related objects and three counts of obstructin­g law enforcemen­t officers.
