Domestic incident leads to drug charge
A Rome man who is accused of battering a woman early Saturday morning was reportedly found to be carrying a quantity of methamphetamines in his pants.
According to Floyd County Jail reports: Joseph Lee Byrd, 39, of 3 Porter St., was arrested Saturday morning at a location on Martha Berry Boulevard after police were called to investigate a domestic assault. Reports indicate Byrd struck a woman and ripped off her clothes during the attack.
When police took him into custody, they found the meth in his front left pocket. Byrd is charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor battery. He was being held in jail Saturday night on a $3,500 bond.
Report: Rome man passed bogus $1 bills at Walmart
A Rome man stopped for shoplifting in the Walmart at 825 Cartersville Highway now face felony charges after being caught with counterfeit $1 bills. According to Floyd County Jail reports: Carlos Demond Woodard, 29, of 131 Dodd Blvd., was arrested Friday afternoon after authorities checked him for allegedly shoplifting a couple of ink cartridges and two phone chargers. Police found 29 fake $1 bills on Woodard resulting in felony forgery in the first degree charge to go with the misdemeanor theft by shoplifting.
Woodard was being held in the Floyd County Jail Saturday night pending a $3,500 bond.
Woman faces felony charge after violating bond
A Polk County woman is being held in the Floyd County Jail without bond after violating terms of a previous bond in West Rome Friday. According to Floyd County Jail reports: Brittany Sharnice Blair, 18, of 203 Forrest Court, Rockmart was charged with felony aggravated stalking after making contact with a woman that she had been ordered not have contact with.
21-year-old charged with possessing ecstasy pills
A Rome man is being held in the Floyd County Jail without bond after being caught Friday evening with a number of ecstasy, or MDMA, pills. According to Floyd County Jail reports: Jacob Austin Clay, 21, of 3824 Old Dalton Road, was arrested Friday night near the intersection of Chulio and Cole roads and charged with felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance. Reports do not indicate how many of the pills Clay had.
