Floyd County CASA will hold a 30-hour training class for new volunteers on Thursdays from July 11 to Aug. 22 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Restoratio­n Rome, 1400 Crane St. The class prepares volunteers to act as court appointed advocates on behalf of children in foster care under jurisdicti­on of the Floyd County Juvenile Court. The Rome Chapter of The Compassion­ate Friends will meet today at 7 p.m. in the Lower Level at Redmond Regional Medical Center, 501 Redmond Road. This is a support group for those who have lost a child, grandchild or sibling, no matter the age. Single Friends will host a dance and cakewalk on Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Charles Parker Senior Center, 1325 Kingston Highway. Couples welcome. Admission is $7 each.

The Rome/colored Main High School Reunion Committee will have a called meeting on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Kelsey-aycock-burrell Center, 41 Washington Drive. All members are asked to attend.

Georgia Legal Services Program assistance will be available in the Judicial Courthouse, 3 Government Plaza, Suite 114, on Friday from 9 a.m. to noon to assist low-income clients in a range of civil matters including TPOS, public benefits, housing, consumer issues, school suspension­s and unemployme­nt. The Rome Kiwanis Club will be taking orders for peaches through July 11. 25-pound boxes are $40, 12.5-pound boxes are $25 and 6.25-pound boxes are $15.

Chieftains Museum, 501 Riverside Parkway, will host the new traveling exhibit “‘It is impossible to destroy men with more respect for the laws of humanity’: Court Cases of Cherokee Removal in Georgia” from July 24 through Sept. 6. The exhibit explores the legal arguments for and against the removal of the Cherokee in Georgia. Museum admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors age 62 and older and $2 for students.
