More charges filed against woman after standoff with police

Child cruelty charges were added against a Rome woman jailed for refusing to immediatel­y leave her residence following a domestic dispute, according to Floyd County Jail records.

According to reports: Regina Diane Thomas, 56, of Big Texas Valley Road, was in jail without bond Wednesday.

She threatened to physically harm a person at her home Tuesday in front of the other adults and children who live at the residence. She also shot a gun into the ground after making the threats.

Floyd County police and other agencies, including the Rome-floyd SWAT team, descended upon the area after Thomas refused to follow police orders to come out. She surrendere­d to officers without incident after about an hour.

Thomas is charged with three counts felony seconddegr­ee cruelty to children and two counts felony terroristi­c threats and acts, all under the Family Violence Act.

Rome man faces child cruelty charges

A Rome man was being held without bond Wednesday after a juvenile was hit in the head by a cellphone during a scuffle.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Carlos Correa Jr., 47, grabbed a person by the face Saturday and took their cellphone away while they were trying to call 911.

He then threw the phone, hitting a 13-year-old in the head.

Correa is charged with felony first-degree cruelty to children and misdemeano­r simple battery under the Family Violence Act, as well as two counts of third-degree cruelty to children and one count of obstructin­g or hindering persons making emergency calls.
