Search warrant leads to 2 drug arrests

A search warrant executed by the Rome-floyd Metro Task Force at a Rome motel resulted in the arrest of two men on charges of traffickin­g and possessing illegal drugs.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Jonathan Benjamin Whatley, 36, and Dennis Anthony Whatley Jr., 34, both of Rome, were in a room at the Budget Inn, 3005 Martha Berry Highway NW, Wednesday afternoon with more than an ounce of methamphet­amine, digital scales and marijuana.

Officers also found small plastic bags commonly used to package and redistribu­te illegal drugs.

Both men face felony charges of possession of meth, possession of meth with intent to distribute and traffickin­g meth.

They are also charged with misdemeano­r possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and possession and use of drug-related objects.

Dennis Whatley Jr. also is charged with felony counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Both men are being held without bond.

Report: Men chased down vehicle, demanded money

Two men in a silver convertibl­e allegedly followed a man driving in East Rome, with one of them demanding his money after he drove his car off of East 12th Street.

According to Rome police reports:

The convertibl­e occupied by two men drove up beside the man as he drove down Maple Avenue and began aggressive­ly following him.

After turning down several streets to try and lose the convertibl­e, the man drove south on Walnut Avenue and did not stop at the intersecti­on of East 12th Street for fear of the convertibl­e catching up to him. He then went off the road and into a grassy area, coming to rest with both front air bags deployed.

The passenger of the convertibl­e — described as a bearded white man with glasses and tattoos on his neck — then walked toward the man with a wooden baton and said, “Give me your money.” The man told him that he doesn’t keep cash on him. The passenger then got back in the convertibl­e and headed toward South Rome.

A Cave Spring man remained in Floyd County Jail on Thursday after a Floyd County Sheriff K-9 alerted a deputy to drugs in his vehicle following a traffic stop, reports stated.

According to jail reports: Seth Bradley Case, 31, was stopped for a stop sign violation near the intersecti­on of Grover Street and Hardy Avenue. The deputy discovered Case’s license was suspended and, after K-9 Brew indicated a positive alert for drugs during an air sniff, a glass smoking device was found on the passenger-side floor board.

Case is charged with felony possession of methamphet­amine, as well as misdemeano­r counts of possession of drug-related objects, driving while license suspended or revoked and a stop sign violation.

He is being held on a probation violation and for the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office.

A Rome man remained in jail Thursday after officers found marijuana in the car he was riding in and a gun on his person, according to reports.

According to Rome police reports:

Juquan Rashad Glover, 25, was the passenger in a vehicle that was stopped near the intersecti­on of 12th Street and Maple Avenue for a broken tail light and a window tint violation.

The officer detected the odor of marijuana coming from the car and told the female driver he would be conducting a probable cause search of the vehicle. Glover said he had approximat­ely three grams of marijuana inside the vehicle, which the officer located.

The officer also found a revolver in Glover’s waistband, which Glover admitted he knew he couldn’t have since he was a convicted felon.

Glover is charged with felony counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is also charged with misdemeano­r possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, and was being held on three probation violations.

An Armuchee man remained in jail Thursday after he was stopped by an officer and found with a glass smoking device, according to reports.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Michael Douglas Bailey, 23, was stopped on Lombardy Way near Commerce Court. He is charged with felony possession of methamphet­amine and a probation violation.

Police: Man attacked

A Rome man was in jail Thursday without bond after he allegedly struck a woman with a baseball bat and choked her.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Bobby Andrew Holbrook, 67, hit the woman on the back of her left arm with a bat and then choked her until she nearly passed out. He is charged with felony aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act.
