Suzanne Barton Jackson, 80, passed away Friday, February 5, 2021, in the comfort of her home after a well fought year-long battle with ovarian cancer.

Born on September 25, 1940, in Rome, Georgia, Suzanne was the eldest child of G. Winton and Frances Barton. She attended Rome High School and was the last graduating class of 1958. She then went to Jacksonvil­le State University, class of 1961. Suzanne began her teaching career immediatel­y for Atlanta Public Schools and then taught most of her 40-year career in Fulton County, ending by part-time teaching for 5 extra years. While teaching, she also earned her Master’s Degree from West Georgia College.

She adored children, education, music, learning, laughter, people, her children and grandchild­ren, cousins and countless friends. She was passionate about reading and learned that she had a new found passion and mission when one of her grandsons was diagnosed with dyslexia in kindergart­en. She also loved volunteeri­ng at local schools as a mentor, Meals on Wheels of Coweta County, and the Georgia Council of the Blind after her father suffered from macular degenerati­on.

Suzanne is the widow of Daniel Ray Jackson, Sr. Surviving are her brother, George W. Barton Jr., daughter Melinda Messinger Servick and husband Todd and their two sons, Brady (10) and Charlie (8); son Daniel R. Jackson, Jr. and wife Lisa and their two sons, Zach (11) and Ben (8).

A Celebratio­n of Life for Suzanne will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at 2pm at Northside United Methodist Church, 2799 Northside Drive NW, Atlanta, GA 30305. Due to Covid-19, a mask is required to enter the church.

21, 1956, daughter of the late George Hopkins and the late Doris Poole Hopkins. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Derick Kyle Hopkins. Mrs. Mccurry attended the Pepperell schools and was a 1974 graduate of East Rome High School. She received a degree in journalism from the University of Georgia. Prior to retirement, she worked as a Customer Service Representa­tive for Walter-kleur.

Survivors include her husband, Stephen Eugene Mccurry, to whom she was married on December 28, 1980; two sons, Joshua Shane Mccurry, Cartersvil­le, and Robert Walter Mccurry, Silver Creek; three granddaugh­ters, Anna Lynn Harper Mccurry, Zoe Mccurry, and Lily Mccurry.

A private service will be held at Georgia National Cemetery.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, has charge of the funeral arrangemen­ts.

Georgia lift truck service. He also worked for a stint at Diamond Carpet Mills. Mr. Poole was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his son, Willie Alton “Al” Poole, Jr. (Amanda), Rome; his daughter, Christy Poole Hubbard (Terry), Rome; 4 grandchild­ren, Mylia, Macie, Rebecca, and Jackson; a special friend, Arleen Smith; 2 brothers, Randy Poole (Karen), and John Poole; 2 sisters, Alene Smith and Kay Weeks; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021, at 11am in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with WKH 5HY 'HDQ :ULJKW Ri¿flating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens. Social distancing guidelines will be followed.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 10 until 10:45am at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel. Social distancing guidelines will be followed.
