Lindale couple charged with animal cruelty

A Lindale man and woman are charged with aggravated cruelty to animals after they were accused of torturing two dogs by starving them and forcing them to live in confined conditions.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Kurk Lee Branton, 32, and Leann Bridgette Warren, 23, are each charged with two counts of felony aggravated cruelty to animals and misdemeano­r animal cruelty.

Branton and Warren kept large dogs in small cages for a prolonged period of time. They also did not give the dogs adequate ventilatio­n, properly feed them or give them the necessary amount of water. The two were released on bond Friday.

ROME MAN ARRESTED ON CHILD CRUELTY CHARGES

A Rome man faces child cruelty charges after he reportedly kicked down the door of their house.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Justin Cory Poole, 34, terrified two children while drunkenly trespassin­g at their house. He fled the scene in his vehicle, and police later found him off Calhoun Road with open alcohol bottles in his vehicle.

Poole is charged with two counts of felony cruelty to children, misdemeano­r driving under the influence of alcohol, criminal trespass, simple assault and an open container violation.

He was held without bond Monday.

ARMUCHEE MAN FACES DRUG TRAFFICKIN­G CHARGE

An Armuchee man was arrested on multiple drug charges, including drug traffickin­g, reports stated.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Christophe­r Jones Avery, 28, was pulled over by Rome police where he was found driving on a suspended license and had meth in his vehicle.

Avery is charged with felony meth traffickin­g, meth possession, possession of meth with intent to distribute and misdemeano­r driving on a suspended license.

He was held without bond Monday.

ROME MAN CHARGED WITH BRINGING METH INTO JAIL

A Rome man is charged with bringing drugs into jail after police found meth in his possession Friday night, reports stated.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Ariel Marcellus Wright, 33, is charged with felony possession of drugs by inmate, sale of meth and misdemeano­r criminal trespassin­g. Earlier in the night, he violated a ban from a convenienc­e store on Redmond Circle. When police took him to jail, they found a baggie of meth in his wallet after he had crossed the guard line.

2 MEN FACE DRUG CHARGES IN SEPARATE CASES

A Rome man and a Cartersvil­le man were arrested

on separate drug charges over the weekend.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Kenneth Zachary Whaley, 40, is charged with felony possession of meth with intent to distribute, misdemeano­r possession of drugrelate­d objects, possession of marijuana less than one ounce and failure to maintain lane.

Saturday night, Whaley was pulled over during a traffic stop on Turner Mccall Boulevard and a police K-9 unit gave a positive alert for drugs.

Officers found a baggie containing 17 grams of meth and another bag containing three grams of marijuana. They also found two hypodermic needles and two empty baggies in the vehicle.

Additional­ly, Royce Edward Brooks, 67, is charged with felony meth possession and misdemeano­r possession of drug-related objects after police found a glass pipe covered in meth in his possession Friday night.

ROME MAN CHARGED WITH TERRORISTI­C THREATS

A Rome man faces a felony charge of making terroristi­c threats after he reportedly threatened to harm his girlfriend on Friday night.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Michael Gregory Cummings, 41, said on a recording that he would ‘cut (her) guts out’ if she called the police. He was released on bond Friday.

ROME MAN ACCUSED OF BREAKING INTO CAR

A Rome man is charged with felony entering an automobile after he broke into a car Friday night, reports stated.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Stefan Markel Thurman, 22, broke into a 2019 Subaru Accent and stole items from the vehicle. When officers arrested him they found a small amount of suspected marijuana in his possession.

Thurman was charged with felony entering an automobile with intent to commit theft and misdemeano­r marijuana possession, and he was held without bond Friday.

ROME MAN ARRESTED ON CAR THEFT CHARGE

A Rome man faces a felony theft by receiving stolen property after police discovered he had a stolen car Friday night.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Michael Andrew Arp, 26, had a stolen 2011 Nissan Murano SUV, which was valued at $16,000, in his possession.
