FINCHER, Thomas Kinney

Mr. Thomas “Kinney” Fincher, Jr., age 85, of Rome, GA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 2, 2022. Mr. Fincher was born on July 27, 1936, in Rome, GA. He was the son of the late T.K. Fincher, Sr. and Thelma Fowler Fincher. He graduated from Rome High School in 1954 and furthered his HGXFDWLRQ WKURXJK Rɣ FDPpus courses. Mr. Fincher married Ellen “Maxine” Ingram Fincher on August 14, 1955, and they were happily married for 62 years. Mr. Fincher was Vice President and Secretary Treasurer of the Rome Seed and Feed Company. Mr. Fincher was a faithful member of the North Rome United Methodist Church for many years. Kinney was an active member of the community serving on county committees and government boards. He was a long standing member of several civic organizati­ons including the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge #694, ZKHUH KH VHUYHG DV DQ RɤFHU The Exalted Ruler for multiple terms. Kinney was committed to giving back to the community and was always willing to step in and lend a hand. An avid Braves and Bulldogs fan, Kinney enjoyed watching the games and was so excited to see them both win championsh­ips in 2021. Many Romans knew Kinney through the Rome Seed and Feed Store. They knew they could go to him for advice on topics ranging from planting vegetables and fruits to canning them; from purchasing chickens and ducks to feeding and raising them; from landscapin­g to stocking your kitchen. When asked by Mary Deese of the Rome News Tribune (1999) if they really did have everything in Rome Seed and Feed, he proudly replied, “If we don’t have it, we can get it.” He believed ‘product knowledge, customer service and quality products’ set Rome Seed and Feed apart and the customers agreed. Survivors include his loving daughter, Dr. Kimothy Jarrett and her husband D.J. of Woodstock, GA; one grandchild, Jessica and her husband Duncan Messler of Lawrencevi­lle, GA; brother, Wendell and his wife Ludye Fincher of Kingston, GA; he is also survived by a nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Mr. Fincher was preceded in death by his beloved wife Maxine Fincher; his parents; grandchild, Kali Angel Jarrett and an infant brother, Virgil Clay Fincher. A Celebratio­n of Life for Mr. Thomas “Kinney” Fincher will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at 12:00 pm in the Chapel Salmon Funeral Home. Kinney’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm.
