Rome man arrested on child molestatio­n, exploitati­on charges

A Rome man was arrested around noon Friday on felony aggravated child molestatio­n, sexual exploitati­on of children and other related charges.

According to Floyd County Jail reports: William David Curry, 29, contacted someone online he believed to be under 16 years old. He sent several explicit videos and photograph­s to the person, as well as other descriptiv­e messages. He then travelled to a location in Floyd County to meet the person.

During the arrest, Floyd County police found THC wax in his possession. Curry is also charged with felony THC oil possession, three counts of electronic­ally furnishing obscene material to minors, using a computer service to solicit a child and obscene internet contact with a child.

He was held without bond Monday.

BANK SAYS WOMAN DEPOSITED $9.8K IN FAKE CHECKS

Truist bank reported to the Rome Police Department that a woman deposited over $9,800 in fake checks.

According to Rome Police Department reports:

In a May 11 incident, a woman cashed

a fraudulent check for $4,915.13 at Truist bank on Second Avenue. The same woman returned the following day to deposit a second fake check for $4,916.13. She then withdrew $4,800 through the bank ATM and Cash App.

The bank teller said she believes the woman was a part of a large fraud ring in metro Atlanta.

REPORT: ROME WOMAN HIT 14-YEAR-OLD

A Rome woman is charged with felony first degree cruelty to children after she reportedly struck a 14-year-old and pulled her hair.

According to Floyd County Jail reports: Lucero Aguinaga Cortez, 25, also struck a law enforcemen­t officer in the face during her arrest. Cortez is additional­ly charged with felony obstructio­n, misdemeano­r disorderly conduct and battery. She was released on bond over the weekend.

2 REPORTEDLY TRIED TO FIGHT POLICE AT CIVIC CENTER

Two men are accused of trying to fight police after law enforcemen­t attempted to arrest them for public drunkennes­s outside of the Rome Civic Center.

According to Floyd County Jail reports: Antonio Navarro, 33, and Marcial Reyes, 45, are both charged with felony obstructio­n, misdemeano­r disorderly conduct and public drunkennes­s.

Reyes was held on a $7,000 bond Monday, while Navarro was held for Immigratio­n Custom Enforcemen­t.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO FAKE ID CHARGE

A Rome man is charged with felony fraudulent identifica­tion for an incident that occurred in August 2020, reports stated. According to Floyd County Jail reports: Luis Enrique Mendoza-cornejo, 39, used a fake identifica­tion that stated he was from Tennessee while seeking medical care at Floyd Medical Center in August 2020. Police pulled over Mendoza-cornejo on Shorter Avenue on Friday.

Cornejo is also charged with misdemeano­r DUI, driving without a license, failure to obey traffic control device and failure to maintain lane. He was released on bond over the weekend.

ROME MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES AT FAIRBRIDGE INN

A Rome man is charged with multiple drug possession offenses after he was arrested by Floyd County police at the Fairbridge Inn Express on Martha Berry Boulevard. According to Floyd County Jail reports: Tanorris Jowen Turner, 39, had cocaine, THC oil and less than an ounce of marijuana at the hotel, as well as a revolver. Turner is charged with felony cocaine possession, THC oil possession, possession of a firearm during commission of a crime, firearm possession by a convicted felon and misdemeano­r marijuana possession.

He was held without bond Monday.
