—A snatchin-grab of a bag of food at the drive-thru window of a Milledgeville eatery Sunday afternoon led to the shooting of a 13-year-old.

Officers and detectives with the Milledgeville Police Department have arrested a local man in connection with the shooting.

The juvenile suspect reportedly ran between a vehicle and the drive-thru, snatching a bag of food from an employee at the Dairy Queen on South Wayne Street, according to a press release from police.

Later, police responded to a call about a shooting that had just happened, according to Milledgeville Police Department Maj. Etta Renee

Gray, commander of the police department’s criminal investigations bureau.

“We received the call about the shooting at 3:32 p.m. and we’re investigating this as a robbery by snatching, followed by aggravated assault,” Gray told The Union-Recorder in a telephone interview.

Gray said after the juvenile snatched the food from patrons at the drive-thru, a man chased the juvenile down in a car. The man was later identified as Rafael Waller of Milledgeville.

The juvenile ran away from the eatery and was chased by a man driving a Honda.

“At some point, the person chasing the juvenile caught up with him in the area of Quality Pawn where an altercation occurred and the juvenile was shot,” Gray said.

The teen, whose name was not disclosed because he is considered a juvenile, was treated at the scene for a gunshot wound to the arm. Firefighters/first responders with Milledgeville Fire Rescue Services and personnel with Grady Emergency Medical Services rendered the teen medical help.

The teen was later taken by ambulance to Children’s Health Care of Atlanta where he was listed in stable condition Monday afternoon, Gray said.

Detective Lt. Everett January, the assistant commander of the criminal investigations bureau, along with Detective Michael McElroy arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting.

The suspect, who fled the scene after the shooting, was taken into custody at his residence.
