CPD: Bartow man trashed Texaco after being carded for cigars

- From staff reports

A pack of cigars could end up costing a Cartersville man at least $4,000 and prison time.

According to the Cartersville Police Department and Bartow County Jail:

Aaron Arthur Levi, 39, went into the Texaco gas station at 216 S. Tennessee St. for cigars Sunday night and ended up trashing the place.

The clerk told police that

Levi — 6 feet 2 inches tall, 250 pounds — demanded cigars and started cursing and screaming when she asked for identification. He began pushing things off the counter and throwing them at her.

Police and a video of the incident confirmed numerous items strewn on the floor behind the counter, including candy, lighters, plastic shelving, lottery tickets, vape pens and a broken HP computer.

As Levi punched the computer, and almost punched the clerk, she threw a pack of cigars on the counter. He grabbed them, pushed a vape display off the counter and left. Damage is estimated at $4,000.

A customer in the store at the time gave much the same account, which included a specific threat to the clerk, and identified Levi by name as a neighbor.

Police went to Levi’s address on Forrest Avenue but he refused to come out.

When they forced the door open, they found him lying in bed, smoking one of the cigars he had taken from the gas station.

Levi was being held in the Bartow County Jail on Wednesday with a bond set at $15,750. He is charged with robbery by intimidation, first-degree property damage, terroristic threats and acts, disorderly conduct, simple assault and obstruction of law enforcement officers.
