Alabama men convicted of the 2022 murder of a 29-year-old Rossville man

- From staff reports

Two Alabama men have been convicted of murder in the August 2022 death of 29-year-old Dakota Bradshaw of Rossville.

“In too many parts of the country we see prosecuting offices who do not support their hardworking law enforcement partners,” said Lookout Mountain District Attorney Clay Fuller at a news conference in Lafayette. “The partnership between my office and the GBI in this case should be a model for the rest of the country where violent criminals and lawlessness reign supreme and prosecutors do nothing about it.”

Last week a Walker County Superior Court jury handed down guilty verdicts for felony murder to Kavon Collier and Eric Dodds, both of Huntsville, Alabama.

TIMELINE OF THE CASE

On Aug. 1, 2022, at 1:17 p.m., Walker County Sheriff’s deputies and Rossville Police Department officers responded to a shots fired call at 417 E. Peachtree St. in Rossville. Deputies and officers arrived on scene to find Bradshaw shot inside his home. He was taken to Erlanger Hospital

in Chattanooga, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses saw a red truck and a blue Dodge Challenger leaving the home of the incident and described a shooter getting into the red truck and speeding away.

Walker County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Mike Freeman contacted the GBI for assistance in investigating Bradshaw’s death.

Seven days later, on Aug. 8, 2022, the GBI obtained a murder warrant for Collier. On Aug. 10, 2022, the U.S. Marshals Task Force in Huntsville, special agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Huntsville Police Department SWAT team and crime scene specialists, arrested Collier at his home.

On on August 15, 2022, the GBI obtained murder warrants for Dodds. The next day, Dodds was arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force in Huntsville.
