MCCANE, Dr. Oliver Clayton

Dr. Oliver Clayton Mccane, age 94, of Rome, GA, passed away peacefully at his home on May 7th, 2023. He will be remembered as a faithful husband, a devoted father, a great leader, and a respected member of the church community.

Born in War, West Virginia on May 22nd, 1928, to his late parents, Snowden and Mable Day Mccane who loved him dearly. Dr. Mccane was known for his gentle nature from an early age. His intelligen­ce and love for the Lord led him to earn two PHDS in English and Theology. He worked tirelessly for the Church of God, serving in many capacities throughout his career including the General Director of Publicatio­ns for the denominati­on and State Overseer for many states. One of Dr. Mccane’s proudest accomplish­ments was pastoring so many members of the community throughout his life. He loved guiding others in their faith journey with love and compassion.

Dr. Mccane is survived by his wife Ruth Jewel Hughes Mccane of Rome, GA; son, Ron Mccane and his wife Lori of Jacksonvil­le, FL; daughter, Robin Gilliam and her husband Jerry of Simpsonvil­le, SC; grandchild­ren: Mathew Gilliam and his wife Cara, Steven Gilliam and his wife Erin, Lauren Berry and her husband Brian, Cheryl Davis and her husband Jacob; ten great-grandchild­ren; and one additional great grandchild on the way. In addition to his parents, infant daughter Cheryl, and infant great grandson Beau Oliver, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate Oliver Clayton’s life on June 3rd at North Rome Church of God (1929 N Broad St Rome, GA 30161) at 1:00 with Pastor Terry Addis, Pastor Douglas Leroy, Mr. Bob Rogers and 3DVWRU 7HG %DOODUG RɤFLDWING. The family will receive friends on June 3, 2023, at North Rome Church of God from 12:00 PM until the service begins at 1:00 PM.

Though he will be deeply missed by family and friends alike, those who were fortunate enough to know Dr. Mccane comfort themselves knowing he now rests with his Heavenly Father.
