RLT’S ‘Annie, Jr’ runs June 8-11 at Rome City Auditorium
Rome Little Theatre’s Penguin Project production of “Annie, Jr” will run June 8-11, 2023 at the Rome City Auditorium.
“Annie, Jr” is based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning best musical, with book and score by Tony Award winners, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin.
With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
The first production of its kind for Rome Little Theatre, “Annie, Jr” is produced in partnership with The Penguin Project, an organization that seeks to provide theater experiences for children and young adults with disabilities.
Each actor is paired with a peer mentor who serves as a guide and friend throughout the entire rehearsal and performance process. The experience is designed to create an environment that fosters inclusion, support and friendship. Young artists explore their creativity and develop self confidence while the audience has a chance to see
them succeed in ways they never thought possible.
RLT invites anyone who wishes to support young artists of all abilities to come see this amazing example of the joy that theatre can bring to everyone. “Annie, Jr” is directed by Maegan Williams.
The show runs Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
