- BELCHER, Ann Chambers

Ann Chambers Belcher, age 92. Passed away peacefully on Thursday October 19, 2023.

Ms. Belcher was born on February 24, 1931 in Atlanta, Georgia. She is the daughter of the late Herman Harvey Chambers and Ruth Eileen Cox Chambers. She was preceded in death by her husband Allen Belcher, her brother James Herman Chambers and a niece, Jennifer Chambers.

Ann moved to Rome and attended Girls High and Shorter College. She was active in Beta Sigma Phi sorority and enjoyed making many friends. Ann was a Reading Specialist at Southeast Elementary school for many years. Later she worked at Tri-State Specialty Company with her father. Ann owned and operated the family company and retired at age 61.

Ann was a member of First Baptist Church of Rome. She was an avid gardener, loved having garage sales and was a fabulous hostess. Ann spend her later years being involved with her two daughters, grandchild­ren and great grandchild­ren, whom she adored.

Survivors include her daughters, Ruthann (Rick) Sargent, Rome; Kathy (Dennis) Nichols, Atlanta. She is also survived by 6 grandchild­ren and 6 great grandchild­ren. Grandchild­ren include Will (Jenny) Sargent, Dripping Springs, TX; Anna (Chris) Miller, Rome; William Nichols, Charlottes­ville, VA; Wesley (Caroline) Nichols, Atlanta; Alex (Sarah) Nichols, Atlanta and Andy (Catherine) Nichols, Atlanta. Great grandchild­ren include Sam and Jack Sargent, Emmett, Shepherd and Ruthie Miller and Hugh Nichols.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 25th at 11am in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Rome with Dr. Matt Duvall RɤFLDWLQJ 9LVLWDWLRQ ZLOO EH at 10am in the dining room of the fellowship hall, please enter through the courtyard. Interment will be at Eastview Cemetery following the service.

Pallbearer­s include James Davenport, Jack Harris, Chip Hood, Jimmy Hopkins, Bill Kelly and Jackie Payne.

The family would like to extend their love and gratitude to Ann’s very special caregivers: Becky Bruder, Melissa Crowe, Paige Huggins, Kristy Johnston, Gina Thomas and Amanda West. A special thank you to Heyman Hospice, Tracee Haygood, Pam Estes and Sue Glaze.

At the young age of 12, in his sleek apple green car, before a crowd of 75, 000 spectators cheering him on, he beat out the Class “A” champion of the regional Soap Box Derby of Philadelph­ia and earned a place at the National Soap Box Derby competitio­n in Ohio.

Following graduation from Lansdowne High School in 1951, Mr. Mack began his college education at Drexel University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. During this time, he met the love of his life, Patricia Ann. They wed in June,1954 and in a short time became the proud parents of three daughters.

Mr. Mack’s journey to success in business began in 1964, when he was hired by Best Manufactur­ing as a sales representa­tive for its industrial glove line. He became General Sales Manager in 1972 where he was instrument­al in expanding the company’s chemical resistant lines that included VHYHUDO EUHDNWKURX­JK ¿UVWV in the hand protection industry. In the early 1990’s, Mr. Mack establishe­d the Profession­al Care division which marketed gloves to various healthcare segments, including hospital, dental and medical sales with the introducti­on of the nitrile glove. Known as the N-DEX JORYH LW ZDV WKH ZRUOG¶V ¿UVW disposable latex-free examinatio­n glove, which are the blue gloves commonly used in medical facilities worldwide. In 1995, The National Industrial Glove Distributo­rs voted Mr. Mack into its Hall of Fame for his contributi­ons to the industry. Despite his success, he was quick to credit those who surrounded him during his career, saying “I’ve never been afraid to hire people smarter than I am because I know they’ll make me look good.”

Perhaps his greatest legacy was his unwavering dedication to his family.

Remembered for his fun-loving spirit, sage advice and witty one liners, he was a welcomed mentor to his many grandchild­ren. He commemorat­ed every milestone for each member of his family with a card, phone call or better yet a cocktail or even a trip. He was happiest on a balcony overlookin­g the ocean or lake contributi­ng his special pimento cheese or meatloaf to the festivitie­s.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Patricia, three daughters, Pamela Mack Ramsey (Bill), Teri Mack Hopkins (John), Kristy Mack Curtis (Price); six grandchild­ren, Allyson Paige Ramsey, Christine Ramsey Letsinger, John Lee Hopkins III (Aga), Anna Catherine Hopkins, John Owings Price Curtis, Jr., Haynes Alexander McShane Curtis and two great granddaugh­ters, Adelynn Aeris Willis and Eva Louise Hopkins.

A memorial service will be held at Myrtle Hill Cemetery Mausoleum on Friday, October 27th at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow at the Coosa Country Club.

Zibby White is survived by her daughters, Debra White McCormick (Grady) and Lisa White Hogan (Ross); son, Mark Norris White (Missy); her grandchild­ren, Ryan McCormick, Chelsea Shaughness­y (Dan), Courtney Martin (Josh), 7UDYLV +RJDQ -HVVLFD Noel Hogan (C. J.), Emily Buchanan (Chip) and 12 precious great grandchild­ren with two on the way.

Zibby White loved her family, friends and her church. She was the librarian for many years at Model High School. She was the librarian of the year for the state of Georgia in the early 80s. She earned her PHD. in Library Science.

Zibby loved to read and instilled that love in her children. She was a world traveler and went many wonderful places with her children. She took all of her grandchild­ren to Europe when they were 13. We will miss her. We love her.
