A Faith that Leads to Miracles

- The Rev. Carey N. Ingram is the pastor at Lovejoy Baptist Church.

The Bible is clear; God is a miracle working God. The question is, do we believe in Miracles? I know you will agree with me that daily throughout this world somebody somewhere needs for God to work a miracle for them or their situation. It could be a health issue, marriage and family problems, or finances. The miracle might not always be a need; but simply something we want to happen in our lives. A miracle is defined as an extraordinary event taken as a sign of the supernatural power of God. It is an extremely outstanding or unusual event, thing, or accomplishment.

Our God is a God of the miraculous and the supernatural. Our faith and trust in God connects us to His miracle working power and makes the impossible, possible.

So what is faith? “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear” (Hebrews 11:1-3). For the Christian, faith is complete confidence and trust in God. To exercise faith is to have confidence about an expectation without visible proof that it will happen.

Today, many people see a miracle as winning the lottery. However, be mindfulthat Jesus said in Mark the 10th Chapter that it will be hard for those who have riches to enter the Kingdom of God. The disciples did not understand, and we should be sensitive to that as wellbecause could it be that some miracles we seek are not in the will of God. Look at all the money people put into the lottery to a point that it reaches millions and sometimes billion dollar rewards. Jesus makes it clear that being rich does not ensure our place in Heaven. In fact, it makes it harder when we put money before God. “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows” (1 Timothy 6:10).To win a big amount of the lottery is not a miracle from God only if we use it to the glory of God. What we think is the best thing that could ever happen to us may become the worst.

Let us not desire for miracles for personal gain, satisfying the flesh. Rather, let us seek the miracles of touching the heart of world leaders to end wars. Let us seek miracles for the millions of people living in the world at poverty level that God will provide for them the basic necessities of life. Then, what about miracles that people will come to Jesus Christ and be saved, and ready for what could soon be his soon return.? Let us pray for miracles to heal the precious adults and children battling all kinds of sicknesses and diseases.

Finally, let us keep the faith in God for our God is a miracle working God. As we read the New Testament, observe at all the miracles Jesus performed. He healed the sick, and never attended a funeral. Rather, he raisedthe dead and fed multitudes of people when there was not enough food around. Sometimes, God will allow us to go through trials and tribulations before we see His miraculous power. That is why we must never give up, but keep the faith.

Remember, no other God came into this world as Jesus Christ, and gave up His life for the forgiveness of our sins. That is a miracle. Three day later, however, He rose from the grave with all power-power over death, hell, and the grave. That is a miracle. Let uskeep the faith and live the good life God has for all of us now andin the life Everlastingwith Him in Heaven.
