Model girls soccer continues to dominate 7-AA

The Model Lady Devils continued its journey toward a Region 7-AA title with a dominant 10-0 win at Rockmart on Wednesday.

Model (14-1, 9-0 in 7-AA) was led by Sophie Lawing with four goals and an assist to help the team to its 13th straight win. Other goals were scored by Hennessy Reyes, Briley Sims, Madi Parker, Molly Allmon, Lillie Espy and Maddie Green.

Camila Laguna contribute­d three assists, while Macy Davis had two. Sims, Molly Allmon, Claire Allmon and Kaydence Momon added one assist apiece.

Model will host Fannin County on Monday at 5:30 p.m. and can clinch the region championsh­ip with a win.

SOCCER

Model boys 10, Rockmart 0 The Devils earned a mercy rule-shortened win on the road to stay unbeaten in region play.

Model (13-0-1, 9-0 in 7-AA) was led in scoring by Grayson Davis with three goals for the hat trick. Lakin Dancause also had a big game with two goals and two assists.

Zeke Donner added a goal and two assists, while Evans Drinkard and Elijah Marshall each had one goal and one assist. Kevin Espinoza and Eric Flores added the other two goals, while Ethan Polly had one assist.

Benton Potts, Ridge Hardaker, Grady Smith and Dakota Sapp combined on defense to limit Rockmart to just one shot in the shutout.

Model will be back home Monday to host Fannin County at 7:30 p.m. and can clinch its second straight region title with a win.

BASEBALL

Pepperell 14, Coosa 0

For the second straight day, the Dragons made quick work of county rival Coosa, earning a run rule-shortened win in five innings.

The Dragons (16-1, 7-1 in 7-A Division I) scored one run in the first inning, five in the second, one in the third and seven more in the fourth to force the mercy rule and win the region series after winning Game 1 on Tuesday, also by a 14-0 score.

JP Kilgo had a homer and a double to go with three RBIS and two runs scored, while Cooper Middleton was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIS to lead Pepperell. Kaleb Davis was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Madoc Garcia added a hit and two RBIS, while Kameron Stager contribute­d a double and scored a run. Layton Sanford also had a hit and an RBI, while Hunter Godrey and Will York each chipped in with a hit and a run scored.

Sanford earned the win on the mound with a shortened no-hit shutout as he went five innings and struck out 13 while walking just one.

Jaedin Locklear was the only player to reach base for Coosa (016, 0-8) with a walk.

The two teams were scheduled to wrap up the series Thursday at Coosa.

Pepperell will be off until hosting Social Circle on Friday, March 29 at 5:55 p.m.

Coosa will play a three-game region series against county rival Armuchee this coming week, starting Tuesday at Armuchee at 5:30 p.m.

Chattooga 4, Armuchee 3 Armuchee led early but couldn’t hold on in a tight region loss on the road.

Armuchee (5-10, 1-4 in 7-A Division I) scored two in the top of the first and one in the second to lead 3-1, but Chattooga rallied for three in the bottom half and held steady from there.

Noah Rayburn had a double and an RBI to lead the Armuchee offense. Jackson Thomas added two hits.

Evan Hayes had a solid outing on the mound despite taking the loss as he went six innings and gave up four unearned runs on two hits with seven strikeouts.

Armuchee was scheduled to host Chattooga in the rubber game of the series Thursday and will take on Coosa in a three-game region series this coming week, starting Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Armuchee.
