Rome boys soccer gets region win on Senior Night

Rome’s boys soccer team played as a team with one unified mission in mind on Friday night as the Wolves secured a 5-1 home victory over region foe Woodstock at Barron Stadium on Senior Night.

The defense for Rome (6-4-2, 2-3 in 6-AAAAAA) was led by Isaiah Johnson along with Jacob Fisher while the midfield play was stellar from Josh Hernandez, Cristian Blanco and Larson Vicente.

The Wolves’ attack had a solid night, capitalizi­ng on several scoring chances, with Samin Santizo, Denilson Sevilla and Christoper Reyes leading the way with finishes.

Rome will be on its home field again on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against Creekview. The Wolves can secure a Class AAAAAA state playoff berth with a win.

SOCCER Armuchee boys 9, Chattooga 0

Armuchee had a dominant performanc­e to earn a convincing region road win on Friday led by a monster offensive game from Gabe Dehart.

Dehart finished with five goals in the contest to go with one assist as Armuchee (3-3, 2-2 in 7-A Division I) built a 5-0 lead at the half before putting four more goals on the board in the second half.

Also scoring one goal apiece were Logan Benedict, Brayden Brown, Michael Aldana and Angel Tapia. Aldana added three assists while Brown had two.

Rounding out the assists with one apiece were Tapia and Ethan Ayers. Combining for the shutout in goal were Ryland Steen and Jonah Meyer as Meyer had five saves and Steen had two.

Armuchee will visit Dade County on Thursday for another region matchup at 7 p.m.

Armuchee girls 6, Chattooga 0

Armuchee scored two goals in the first half and pulled away with four after the break to earn another region win on Friday on the road.

Armuchee (5-2, 4-0 in 7-A Division I) got scores in the first half from Liliana Tapia and Brinley Dixon with Tapia’s coming on a free kick from about 35 yards out while Dixon’s goal was assisted by Tori Vitello.
