Report: Shots fired into vehicle as it pulled away from confrontat­ion

Police are investigat­ing reports of a man firing at a vehicle as it pulled off during an incident near the intersecti­on of Camp Street and Copeland Street in North Rome early Monday.

According to Rome Police Department reports:

The incident occurred around 12:06 a.m. Monday and witnesses said a man fired his firearm numerous times at a vehicle in the middle of an argument.

Witnesses identified the suspected shooter and a video showed a group of people standing in the roadway yelling. The video shows a white 2014 Chevrolet Impala driving away in reverse from a group of people and one man, dressed in all black, runs up to the car and shoots several times. At that point, the Impala leaves the scene at a high rate of speed.

Police spoke with several people at the scene as well as the owner of the vehicle. One of the witnesses said the suspect approached her and threatened her, and two juveniles in the car, before his friends pulled him away from the vehicle.

The victim told police that he was accused of striking another person and he got into an argument with that person. He said he attempted to leave when the suspect pulled a firearm and opened fire.

ALBANY MAN CHARGED WITH STEALING $2,600

An Albany man is accused of entering a home on Woodberry Drive in Silver Creek on Sept. 16, 2023, to speak with a man about borrowing some money but then stole $2,600 in cash, reports state.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Darrell Pernell Jones, 53, is charged with felony robbery. Jones is also accused of punching the victim in the face and breaking his nose. He remained in jail without bond as of Thursday.

FLOYD COUNTY WOMAN CHARGED WITH IDENTITY FRAUD

A Floyd County woman is accused of using a former friend’s identifica­tion when receiving a citation for shopliftin­g at Walmart on Sept. 21, 2022, reports state.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Meredith Julean Broxson, 41, is charged with felony identity fraud. She remained in jail without bond on a hold for the Douglasvil­le Police Department.

ROME MAN CHARGED WITH BREAKING INTO GAMING MACHINE IN 2021

A Rome man arrested Oct. 23, 2023, for trespassin­g and theft is facing additional charges for breaking into a coin operated amusement machine on March 19, 2021, at a business on Maple Avenue, reports state.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Dustin Shane Reynolds, 36, is additional­ly charged with felony criminal damage to property for damaging the machine and misdemeano­r theft for taking $500 from it. He remained in jail without bond as of Thursday.

POLICE: CUMMING WOMAN CONSPIRED TO SMUGGLE DRUGS INTO PRISON

A Cumming woman is accused of conspiring with an inmate named James Dominique Turner to smuggle narcotics into the Floyd County Prison on Jan. 18, reports state.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Janae Nicole Collier, 35, is charged with felony conspiracy to possess and distribute controlled substances for trying to smuggle in 20 oxycodone pills, 58.04 grams of marijuana and 49.22 grams of meth.

She remained in jail without bond as of Thursday.

REPORT: ROCKMART MAN FOUND WITH METH AFTER WRECKING MOTORCYCLE

A Rockmart man faces drug charges stemming from an incident on Feb. 16 when police found meth and packaging materials after he wrecked his motorcycle on Old Rockmart Road, reports state.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Colby Lee Craig, 33, is charged with felony possession of meth, possession

of meth with intent to distribute, misdemeano­r reckless driving and passing in a no passing zone.

Craig remained in jail with no bond as of Thursday.

POLICE CAPTURE MAN WITH WARRANTS FROM 2022 AFTER CHASE

A Southeast Rome man with three felony warrants stemming from a 2022 incident was arrested Wednesday evening for running from police from his residence on Dodd Boulevard, reports state.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Michael Derrick Salmon, 32, is charged with felony possession of meth and probation violations for an incident that occurred in June of 2022 when he was found with meth in the cup holders of his car.

Salmon was further charged with misdemeano­r willful obstructio­n of law enforcemen­t when he ran from police officers after they had yelled at him to stop running.

Salmon remained in jail with no bond as of Thursday.
