COVID-19 injunction against Oakland County Jail vacated
The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals vacated an injunction issued in May against the Oakland County Jail.
Federal Judge Linda V. Parker had issued an injunction ruling it was a Constitutional violation to incarcerate anyone with a medical vulnerability during the coronavirus pandemic. All medically vulnerable inmates were ordered to be released.
A 24-page opinion published by the Court of Appeals ruled “the steps the Oakland County Jail had taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 were reasonable.”
The Oakland County Jail has reported there are currently no positive cases of COVID-19. Additionally, no hospitalizations or deaths have occurred within the jail, according to officials.
