Area orchards and cider mills open for the season
Area orchards and cider mills have opened for the season, offering treats such as apple cider, donuts, pies and fresh apples. Many orchards and cider mills will be operating differently due to the COVID-19 pandemic with safety measures including: outdoor walk-up windows for cider and donut sales, drive-thru and curbside pickup, social distancing measures, capacity limits and masks requirements for entry to facilities.
The Michigan Apple harvest 2020 crop estimate is 22.5 million bushels (946 million pounds), according to the USApple Outlook meeting, which was held virtually. This year’s crop estimate is in line with the 2019 harvest, according to the Michigan Apple Committee website, MichiganAp ples.com.
